Shifter Problem

I Love My Ty's
My shifter is getting hard to shift out of park. If I push the button down hard the shifter will move. Once out of park it shifts into the other gears well. Before I started to work on it I wanted to check and see if any of you have ever repaired this problem before. It may just need a little grease.:dunno:

if it is the shifter cable, supersports10 had a heavy duty cable that shifts smooth. About $170. PM him.

The button seems to move OK. Just to get the shifter to move out of park. The button has to be pushed down as far as it can be pushed before the shifter will budge.

I have never looked to see how it all works. But it feels like whatever locks the shifter in park is having trouble releasing.

That sounds like an issue with the button, not the shifter cable. There is also a park cable that goes to the ignition switch to prevent the key from coming out unless it's in park. Could be that as well

Adjustment on the park cable could be it.:tup:

thanks for the kind words...i do indeed sell aftermarket shifter cables, but as much as i like selling stuff i will tell you that a simple disassembly, cleaning, and lube of the shifter assembly will usually fix it. :tup:

I have a question. when I put my car in park i feel it engage a little bit and you hear clicking like it is trying to engage while it rolls if I park on a slight hill. all the other gears work fine but reverse can be weird to get into. I have just been using my E brake for now but is this something that I should get checked or is there an easy fix or what I should expect to hear from a tranny guy?

the cable attachment needs adjustment down on the trans. 5 min fix.

That can be done if u have a lift, it easiest to get all of the wheels up from the ground and adjust it while goin through all the gears.

It wa stoo much for me to do, I dont know enough... I brought it to my mechanic and he charged me 127.00. he said something like the screws were rattled and stripped out and he had to retap and adjust. I am going back to pay today and will get the lowdown.
