Lots of fees/fines. I have to pay a $330 admin. fee to DMV to get an impound release. Then I have to pay the $145 for the tow, plus a $30 admin fee to the tow company and $75 in storage.

You got off lucky. As a 1 responder in my job, there is 1 place that I have to go that is clearly mark DO NOT BLOCK GATE in English and in Spanish. The people always park there anyways. I make a call, the cop shows up and if the owner shows up before the tow truck does it's a $ 270.00 + Fees ticket. If the tow truck get there 1st before the owner, the cost goes up to $1270.00 + Fees ticket even if the tow truck doesn't hook up. This is all because they are too lazy to find a safe place to park.

That is legal? Here, if the vehicle isn't hooked up yet they MUST give it back to you at no expense. Of course that doesn't apply to city tow vehicles, only private owned.

Because the site is in the canyon, it is the only way the county could get the tow trucks to come and the county is fed up with the low life that go there.

I've been involved in a lot of stupid races in my day, only been caught once and that was enough for me. Cop drew his gun on me, was screaming at me that I'm going to jail all kinds of nonsense this was my first offence. I admit I did something stupid, but they don't have to act like you're dad when you smashed his car. moral of the story look around real good before racing, or just stick to the track and try to not end up in a body bag or put someone else in one:tup:

you cant catch me copper ehh

Haven't seen anyone driving anything that can outrun radio waves yet. If the cops are motivated enough, they'll catch ya, then you get a felony fleeing charge tacked on..good luck retaining your anal virginity after that.

This cop thinks he is the judge, jury, executioner and the court clerk. That's was his portrayed attitude toward me. If only one of you guys were there to listen to this guy.

I have been in your shoes. I was 16, got busted for racing im my moms car. Yes. It sucks, but trust me you'll learn alot from this. I am now 34 and have never gotten another ticket since the "speed racing" ticket way back on that night. (knock on wood) l still get down the road pretty quick. the biggest thing you need to learn from this is to be very aware of your surroundings like other vehicles, people, perfectly aligned headlights sitting in an alley etc. Best thing to do is go to a track, also safest as there is an ambulance ready to load you and anyone else up if something goes wrong. Too many dummys on the roads anyways that will pull out in front of you cut you off etc. In the city i play very nice, out on the open road is about the only time ill get after it.

Sorry about your misfortune. It certainly sucks. But that’s a risk you’ve got to be willing to take if you are going to throw people AWD beatings at stoplights.

My advice: don’t street race. More realistically: get a Valentine 1, be aware of your surroundings (particularly when driving like a jack wagon) and nut up when you get caught. Otherwise, keep it at the track.

Last street race in my Sy bought me a ticket to an 8-hour STOP class. I didn’t bitch about the state trooper who pulled me over because I earned that ticket and he did his job.

It sucks. But wrecking one’s car or injuring/killing someone else is considerably worse.

Re: so i got my ty impounded...

Sorry to hear about your incident. I was not there with you so I cant judge what happened. I think most people misread what you wrote. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe what you meant was the cop was an @$$ for impounding your Ty not for doing his job. The question becomes one of DISCRETION, did he HAVE to impound your Ty or could he have used his "Discretion" and just ticketed you. I do believe you when you say the cop was an @$$. It happens (I got a ticketed for going 86 in a 70, on my way to last months SyTy meet and the cop was less than pleasant). Dont let this experience sour your opinion of cops (they may save you or a loved-ones life one day). The important thing is the way you handle yourself and from what you wrote you did. If you have a clean driving record you may do ok with the judge. Good luck in court.

FWIW, I wear a uniform and what I do allows people to live relatively safe lives (this includes the ungrateful and ignorant).

Re: so i got my ty impounded...

I got pulled over, arrested, and had my car impounded almost 10 years ago for street racing. I hadn't actually raced so I fought it and won in court but my car sat in impound for 30 days while I worked all that out. I had just finished the paint job on it and then it sat outside getting crapped on for a month. The thing is, even though I wasn't racing at the time, it wasn't like I was innocent because I pretty much street raced every weekend and got away with some pretty crazy stuff. I took it as a sign and I take it easy for the most part these days. I still get on it from time to time but rarely if ever race anyone except at the track.

I'm friends with a number of very cool police officers and have shared these stories with them for a good laugh. A few random officers have taken it easy on me based on my attitude in the past and I totally respect what they do day to day. One of my buddies is the local PD helicopter pilot and I have gone on ridealongs many times with him. He actually used to be the guy that chased us all away in the street racing days. He told me he used to love watching the races but it was his job to break them up. Bottom line is the guys in uniform have a job to do and if you check your ego, they will usually be willing to help you out.
