Stock Ty with this low of time??

Went to the dragstrip Friday night for the first time with the Ty....my times were thoroughly underwhelming. My best was a 15.4 @ 86. The truck has nearly 100k on it. When I was poking around on the forum here Saturday, I could see that a common failure is the IC pump. Well, I checked mine out, and...DEAD! No worky! So if I replace the pump, how much of an improvement can I expect? Does the pump really make THAT much of a difference? Wow.

My truck is bone stock with the exception of a K&N. I was building as much boost as I could at the line without the truck creeping, so I guess I was doing everything I could.

Oh--and on my last run, the driver's side motor mount let go. The fan makes a really wonderful noise when it hits the upper shroud. It's a real attention getter, lemme tell ya.

well i have the same problem my best time was 14.50 without the front drive shaft ....i guess im gonna tell you what everyone told me we need to get datamaster and do some tuning .....!

Stock ty's should be 13.9-14.1 range.

Otherwise you have some tuning, mechanical issues.

MPH at end of quarter around 98mph.

A scan tool is the key to figuring out WHY your truck is not running these times.

The first time i check my Ty's time on a Gtech, I ran a 15.3 That day I ran the Gtech it their was still snow on the ground and was probably 50's out, I ran a 0-60 time of 6.6 (uggh) I tried af ew more 0-60 times an dran 6.2-6.3 pretty diappointing. (I had an ATR chip in)

I didn't have any IC fluid (due to a leak), I had bad wires ( I thought they were good), and I couldn't build any boost off the line, because my wife sucks at helping me bleed the brakes. I fixed those problems and put back the stock chip and ran it on the Gtech and ran a 5.3 0-60.

I went to the track a few months later and ran a 14.5 with a 1.95 60' time on a much hotter day (80 degrees) I could have launch harder, but I made only one full run and I had some tach flutter in 3rd gear. That was totally stock except for a 160 thermostat (it also had over 160K miles and stock turbo and motor were untouched originals.)

Do you know about reving the motor in neutral to build vacuum in the brakes before you Launch?

In the stock setup, the IC pump doesn't even turn on until the IC is heatsoaked. You should hotwire it so that it runs whenever the truck is on. I also suggest disabling EGR. Simply unplugging the vac line dropped my intake temps from about 180 down to like 120. That's without removing the valve or blocking the passage or anything severe like that.

86 mph is way off. At least 7-8 mph off.

You might be running on wastegate pressure.

You might be putting the spark out going down the track.

The knock sensor might be going crazy.

Scan tool is the best thing.

Like a lot of trucks, a little TLC and they will go from 15's to 13's fairly easily.

I can't see this being an issue unless something is wrong. The EGR valve only gets vacuum after a few minutes of highway cruising. If your intake temperature is going down after unplugging the vacuum line, then you probably have something wrong with your EGR solenoid. Probably leaking. At idle or WOT, there should be absolutely no vacuum at all to your EGR valve. EGR system do not rob you of any horsepower, unless it has a problem. In some ways it could raise hp due to lower combustion chamber temperatures. But ya, sounds to me like you need either A: a tune up, or B: find a scanner. Run some codes, and check some sensor values. And maybe do some diagnosis.

Picking fights on I-65 since 2013
hot day my 100k + mile truck ran a 14.2
nice fall day, I was able to run a 13.745

so far I've replaced:
IC pump
AFPR
Wires
Plugs
re-routed my IC hoses through the pass fender
elec fan on the lower IC (only used when waiting in line or running down the track)

check all the vac hoses, get a scan tool, make sure there is no knock (there is going to be a ton with that motor mount shot)
and you should be able to get a much better 60ft..

good luck.
