TYRODD
My ass. Look at it.
Wow, where to start?!
The 2010 Southeast SyTy Shindig was an unforgettable experience for me. I didn’t know what to expect, here I am, a desert/mountain dweller from the SW, flying cross-country to hang out with a bunch of Hell raising Rebels. Also, the only registered person I had ever met before was Shaun (T-Bone) and that was way back at the 2005 SyTy Nationals in KC. I knew I was going to get to see many new trucks and many new faces, not to mention visit a region of the US. I had gone from three consecutive years of SyTy Nats (05/06/07) to three consecutive years of no SyTy events-I was getting ancy. I would have loved to make it to Nats 09 last year, but it was at the wrong time financially and was at the height of the RV season, so a vacation was out of the question. I needed this trip for a vacation, a chance to see new places and faces, and a reason to “re-spark” my interest in these POS GMC bastards
.
My journey started at 3:45AM with a one-hour drive to the La-Plata airport in Colorado, as there were no practical flights leaving from Farmington. From there, a one-hour flight to Denver, a 2.5 hr flight to Houston, and finally another 2hr flight to Savannah, arriving there at 5:30. Jimmy V and his little boy picked me up at the airport in his super clean 93 ht/wht- such a coincidence for me, for years I’ve thought of his white Typhoon with black grill louvers as my favorite wht/wht, something about it just sets it off for me.
The ride from the airport was very brief (a blessing on my departure) and we soon arrived at the hotel. I was there by myself for while, and the first truck I saw was a wht/wht owned by Gary, and then soon after I noticed Nate’s truck/trailer, and then his wht/grey. I managed to catch an hour of sleep before I saw the Harmon’s “Short Bus” with trailer in tow. After dropping off the trailer, I loaded up with the Harmon tribe and set off for quest for food. After several close calls and miles driven, we found an Applebee’s that was open until midnight. We all nearly lost our appetites from the locals murdering the country music playing on the karaoke machine. Dennis and I managed to suppress our ill feelings by knocking back a couple of tall, cold, refreshing, Yuengling Lagers…MmmmmmYuengling…. (If you only knew how much I love this beer).
Upon re-arrival at the hotel, several new owners who had just arrived greeted us, and the Shindig was underway.
I’ll try to keep things brief and interesting by listing my highlights…
Unless you want the “Bocacheeta Rot”, don’t swim at the Red Roof Inn’s pool.
If you cant find/get your nut, SyTy owners will literally get down on their hands and knees to help you out with that.
If you have an accent, so will I.
If you want to see a pissed off Dennis Harmon, hide his apple Skoal or build him a shitty transmission, one or the other, certain death will ensue if you combine the two.
Adam R shouldn’t feed the horses when no one is looking. Speaking of which, Adam gets punked by every horse he comes into contact with.
Something crawled up and died inside the Red Roof Inn’s ass, and I think whatever it was liked curry.
You don’t pay no sales tax on rebel stuff.
Jessie Harmon will scare the shit out of your little kid.
“Southern Hospitality” isn’t just a term.
The only physical contact I had with Scott Kilpatrick was a handshake, but just to be sure, I took the morning after pill.
Paula Dean aint got shit on Johnny Harris’ fried chicken.
Jet lag aint got shit on horny.
A 5300ft drop in elevation makes me un-drunkable.
Yeungling is the dank shit-‘nuff said.
Two new words- Hoobers and Dingalings.
Mandi likes them Dingalings now.
Clay Aiken is allergic to “peanits”, but jeethus he loves the salt.
Homeless folk love BBQ, but hate low-resolution dash plaques
Yuengling is the new Gatorade at the racetrack.
Don’t drink and assemble grills.
SyTy owners should stick to working on trucks and not grills.
Confederate flags should be measured by their R-value.
SyTy Shindigs are cooler than your shindig.
I have soooooooooo many other memories…they will come back.
I had an amazing time! Huge kudos to the Shindig staff for making this all possible! Big thanks to everyone who gave my honkey ass lifts to and from all the activities (Jimmy, Harmons, Hood, Ian, Pope). Special thanks to the Harmon’s for hanging out with a Nuevo Mexicano, and Hood for hanging out and showing me a great time on Sunday after everyone left-you are a badass dude, Dude!
To everyone that attended, thanks for making this experience amazing. The Shindig shows that there is still some REAL dedication and camaraderie in this community. The trucks bring us together, but the people keep us together. I felt “slow” this whole weekend, I am SO out of practice, but it makes me want to go tear into my truck and fix things that aren’t broke!
To those that didn’t come; you really missed out; these events really make you excited to be an owner and in turn will make you more motivated about your truck. 09-10 has been a hard bit on all of us with the economy in the dump, and I realize it was not feasible for many. Hell I had second thoughts about going, but I don’t regret going at all.
To everyone, Nats12: Denver. BE THERE!
On a side note, my adventure did not end on Sunday. My flight was scheduled for takeoff at 6:37 on Monday morning. I managed to sleep through my alarm clock (set at 4:30) and woke up at 5:37. In a panic, I still managed to make it through security and made it to the gate as the attendant was closing the door to the terminal. I made it on the plane at 6:30, if I had been 5-10 seconds late I would have been a hosed monkey. Phew, I was a mess!
I’ll post pics up soonly! My longest post to date!...JEEEEEETHUS!:rotf:
