Took down a Dirtbike!

Hey guys,

I was out just hanging out at a friends house when a friend of a friend decides that his older Yamaha 490cc 2 stroke dirtbike (not street legal) could take the ty...I've ridden dirtbikes for a while but comparing them to a street car is hard to do, so I said what the hell and decided to run it. I'm still fairly new to the typhoons and I'm still learning my truck so I took this oppertunity. We go to our spot I'm laughing my ass off cause this is a race you never ever see around here or pretty much anywhere. I finally get all the Vacuum out of the brakes and start to build boost, I launched at 4 psi and rip the hell out of him out of the hole until I see him let off. Apparently he had the the choke on.. Second run we line up I build about 5 psi and were off. I get a slight chrip out of the tires he starts to wheelie right next to my door. I have his front tire at my tail gate until about 70-75 until which he caught me at the very end just as i let off. Pretty Good for a dirtbike I thought, but next time I'll try a 7psi launch. I thought it was a pretty kick ass race, I wish I would have got in on video.. maybe next time.

On a side note one more person has a huge appreciation for the sy/ty and what they are capable of, especially the launch.

Hehe. Nice kill.

I spanked pretty quick two cycle 4 wheeler in my 13-second Dodge Spirit a month or so ago. I wish I had it on tape. What a strange race. :D

Someone here in town has a 9 second two cycle dirt bike they race at the local quartermile track. Those suckers are no joke.

Plenty of sleds run 9's in the 1/4, they give the street bikes a good run for their money.

I rode that exact bike minus extremem mods in the dunes for a couple years. Was a great sand bike, had some power. Had to ride it closer to bike than 4 wheeler though, which most didn't get.

Didn't really like ridding it in the woods though, thing liked to be reved not mopping through at idle.

Re: Took down a Dirtbike!

91mph in less than an 1/8 mile is bookin. I have a KX500 Kawi with a Wiseco piston that the ports were worked on and polished. We had it dyno tuned at DG exhausts to 78 hp at the rear tire. Without rider, it weighs just under 240 with a full desert tank. It definitely rips. Never raced a car against it, but to 100-110 (which is pretty close to its top speed), it is frighteningly quick. As far as sleds go, those are nasty as well. But yeah, never underestimate a dirt bike's acceleration. That's what they are designed for. Low speed point and shoot. If they can keep the front tire on the ground, they move out.

Exactly, they can move, and not to mention the weight difference. People look at my like im crazy when I say a 2-stroke dirtbike kept up, but hell they can move.

Sleds...I wonder how fast you can go on snow, seeing a few run 11's out here at 5200' bandimere usually leaves everybody in awe. I bet snow hurts at 125mph.. :rotf:

Re: Took down a Dirtbike!

Depends on how packed out the snow is actually, it can be very forgiving. I've been end over end at 100, and another time at 90 and never got more than a bruise, but I was lucky enough to hit powder, not ice or trees.
