I tried to figure out the max speed of my '92 Typhoon yesterday, and it was pretty disappointing. I got to 110 mph, at which point the engine just kinda hung there in the 5,000-6,000 rpm range and didn't want to give me any additional acceleration power to get to 120.
Basic performance rundown: 122k miles, just got it so not sure if the engine was ever rebuilt (we'll assume not), chipped with the ATR Pitbull so there shouldn't be any governor, previous owner gutted the AC to run the turbo piping, took off the catalytic converter. New spark plug cables & iridium plugs. Tranny definitely not ever rebuilt, and so nearing the end of its useful life.
Any idea what's going on here? Max speed on a stock Typhoon, even an old one, should be higher than 110 mph, right? (My '92 Jeep could reliably run up against the 115 mph governor even at 180k!)
