Typhoons for sale in Massachusetts?

Thinking about rejoining the SY/TY ranks once my Hurst Olds is sold. Anyone know of a clean, un-rotted, reasonably low mile Ty in Mass? I'd prefer one with few or no modifications in any color but white. I really like teal or red but black is OK if you know of one.

Thanks!

Re: Typhoons for sale in Massachusetts?

Thanks for the response Jim! Is that the one in Methuen? The ad expired now but if it is I think it had 135,000 miles on it. I'm trying to stay well under 100,000 miles. Preferably around 70,000 or less would be great.

As you can tell I've been looking around for another one...a nice high mile DD to replace my ranger

I would Say The Red Red At Gogel Is A No....they wont take anything less than 14,000, its a not so well done repaint, (note the decals and rear wing) its pretty much slammed, and the interior can be iffy in some spots (although for the most part its really nice), and its been sitting there for quite some time... i mean go for it if you have no problems with all those headaches, but if you're looking for something un-molested, I'd keep looking...

over-all its kinda nice, just needs quite a bit of TLC to get it "original-ish" looking...
tell you what, I didnt even look into the engine bay....so I dont know what kind of mods are in there....i know the exhaust sounds like ATR....

I do not know of a typhoon for sale but my 2696 syclone is for sale which has 23k original miles and has all original parts.

I'd love to buy a Syclone but I have 2 young kids so it's hard to justify a 2 seater. That's why I'm avoiding Corvettes too. Still, if a Syclone came along that was too good a deal to pass up I'd consider it. What were you looking to get for yours?

I agree. I work 2 blocks from Gogel, and I've looked that Ty over (exterior only... I can't be bothered talking with the sales guys) several times in the past few months. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Something just doesn't feel right about the truck.

Thanks for steering me away from the red one guys! It would have sucked to travel all that way for nothing.

I re-found the ad for that one on Craigslist in RI and CT. It looks nice in the pics but the 135,000 miles scares me a little. It's supposedly been babied the last 9 years and is completely stock though. Typically what are people seeing for mileage out of these engines before they need an overhaul? I know it's subjective depending on the life it leads but lets say in the hands of a "sane" owner what do you guys see? That and at what point does the truck start to feel like a used up, floppy, mess? I know that depends on the abuse it sees too but like I said in the hands of a sane person who maybe takes it to the track a few times per year? Are the bodies pretty solid integrity wise as long as rot doesn't take it's toll? Around when do you see the ball joints wearing out, CV axles, etc typically?

Not trying to come across as a smart ellic but if you are desiring to "rejoin" the SyTy ranks and you are 42 years old, it would seem the answers to these type of questions should be known already. All the best in your search for the right Typhoon

Re: Typhoons for sale in Massachusetts?

Uh, thanks? I'm not being a wise guy either when I say this believe me. Wouldn't you agree the answers should be known by people in the SY/TY community? That's why I asked.
I had my Typhoon in 1993-1994 when no one knew much about them and they were still relatively new. I haven't had anything to do with them since then so I was curious what the people who have worked on and driven them over the last 15+ years have found. I see a lot of posts about them being frustrating, maintenance intensive vehicles so it made me curious what that's based on. Just asking the people who ought to know. I bent the rods in mine twice but it was detonating from the KB race chip I was using and I was too dumb to realize it back in the day. A lot of time has passed since then though.
You're my age do you know what the trouble spots on a 1987 Turbo Sunbird are? How about a WW2 DUKW? The Sunbird has been in my family since new and I've done a lot to it so I'm pretty well versed in them. I work on DUKW's everyday so I know a few things about them too but I wouldn't expect you to. I hope this doesn't come off wrong I'm not trying to make any enemies here believe me. Just explaining why I asked.

Re: Typhoons for sale in Massachusetts?

There is a post or sticky about buying Sy/Ty's. This is a good starting point for determining the potential problem areas of these vehicles.

Also, sooner or later, someone will recommend you run a search to your questions prior to generating a new thread. There is a wealth of information here and much of it has been discussed in the past.

Best of luck on your search.

I had read that but thanks for mentioning it anyway. I'll do some more searching around like you suggested though. Maybe I'll find all my answers!
