Which are the best choice for a 412 or 415 cammed stock turbo'd engine? I am new to the 4.3's so I was curious of everyones opinions, thanks ---

vortec, why would you run a stock turbo with a cam you're losing powerband

Here is something I found on the boards a long time again, can't remeber who posted it or how true the figures.

Intake at .500 lift at 28" water

LB4 stock SY heads 165 cfm

1995down L35 heads stock 193cfm
1995down L35 heads minor porting 211cfm (at 24" water)

1996 up vortec head possibly 250cfm
1996 up ported vortec head 270cfm

brodix -8head stock 240cfm
brodix -8head ported 285cfm

brodix -10head stock 253cfm
brodix -10head ported 289cfm

hope this helps

Can you flow too much? I mean assuming you change your cam.

Hmmm I never knew you had to upgrade your turbo when you upped the cam, this is all new to me :( . What turbo works good with the 412/415 comp cam then?! ---

it seems you are asking whatever comes to mind without doing any reasearch on your own. all of these questions have been asked 100 times and the turbo question is like asking whats your favorite color. your going to get a lot of different answers. and with every question you are asking you must ask yourself and then tell others what you are planning on doing with the truck bc that will change the answer. if you want to race, drive or in between. I'm not trying to be nasty or mean, I've just been watching you ask the questions for some time and I've tried to answer some of them but most of them are easily found through some searching.

carry on---

FWIW I will be running heavily ported L35s with my comp 422 and PTE 67dual ball bearing till I can afford to build my Pontiacs up. (They cost big $$ I have found out)

I guess a proven combo it is then....I honestly did a search and didnt find ANYONE ask what was best between the three heads; the only way I knew there WAS a l-35 head was by searching ;) .... same with the cam needing a turbo swap thing; there is no way I could have searched something I didnt even know was a possibility, but thanks anyway :) ... its not like that with a supercharged engine , or the n/a stuff I was working on before---

.....where as I have ported Vortecs, a 412 and a stock-ish turbo....I'm definitely going to run out of turbo before I run outflow the heads, but I got to stick with a stock downpipe, air intake system, oil and turbo drain and feeds, etc. It was a financial issue that I can toss bigger crap at if I want to later on.

By the way John, I finally, FINALLY got everything dialed in (seems 32lb fuel pressure was pretty darn close; left DM at work and will confirm tonight) and took the bitch out for a dirt road run; she really cranks. I was only able to get maybe 2-3psi out of it before it went wildly out of control on the gravel, but it was a good feeling to be tossed back in the seat again. Thanks again for all of the support and stupid questions over the last year.

What kind of performance do you expect to get out of this combo? I am looking to see SOLID 12's when I am done ( 12.3-12.7 easily ) . Thanks ---

Honestly I hope to go deep in the 11's up here with that setup. As for what it will do, only time and tuning will tell. If you want to go 12's I would go with a setup like Jer has. He goes 12.25 at bandimere with his setup. Ported L35s, port matched intake, T3/T4 turbo alky and custom turboback exhaust and an Ultimate v9 chip. ( correct me if I am wrong on this Jer)

Re: Vortech, L-35 or stock ported heads?! ---

I think I found a set of VORTEC heads for about $200 complete. The guy selling says they will fit on 96-99 4.3's. Will they just "bolt on" to our engines too?! I keep reading something about not being able to adjust the valves.... is that a problem I should consider? These are casting # #12556140, and he said would interchange with casting # #10235772. What are OUR stock castings? I also found some that are casting # 12561107 (not sure but if its close, lol )...are they the same? I plan on running some 1.6 roller rockers. Thanks ---

You can do those numbers on a stock turbo and motor. Basically Ultimate chip and tuning. If on pump gas you will need Alky. If you want to be consistently on the low 12's all you need is a bigger turbo and tuning. You don't need heads cam to run that fast. The stock short block doesn't hold up to higher rev anyways so cams that need more RPM tend to short the life s of the stock internal drastically.

The most popular solution is the lower intake needs to be modified, (Renz, RPM, Turbotime, Waller, etc), they head also need to be drilled for the diffreent bolt pattern, plus you have to deal with the valve covers as well. The vortec also used metric studs for rockers.
