What tire pressure do you run for 1/4 mile runs?

Please list tire pressure, best 60' and 1/4 mile time as well as any weights or mods you care to list. I dropped to 30psi at all four corners and was getting wheel spin at the rear and my 60' times were 1.71 & 1.76 so I'm consistent but know I can do better.

I run green dot retreads and use 20 psi front and rear and best 60' is 1.41. On regular street tires my best was 1.58 i think. I would run 25 psi on all 4 on my firestones when I ran them. If your tires get dirt/grit on them in the lanes pull in front of the water ( not in it) and get up enough boost to do a dry hop to clean em off then pull straight in the groove. I have seen really good gains in 60' with a dry hop if the tires are getting really dirty. The groove is usually the dark tread patches that you see.

Is a dry hop where you spin them very briefly or are you not even spinning them?

Its spinning them to clean them off. If they dont spin it isnt doing anything.

Does anyone warm their rears up? Seems like a lot of us can sit with the brakes held and spin the rears in place, I always wondered if it was worth the wear on the brake pads to just let them spin for a bit and heat up.

I would not do this, even if you can. Was it 03-04 Nats when they tried to do a awd burnout and the TC didnt like it at all.

Yeah, I doubt I'll do any scrubbing on an AWD vehicle. I never have in the past and I won't start now as I can't afford to replace drivetrain components weekly.

Now that makes a lot of sense, I bet trans temps would shoot through the roof.

Watched a stock truck break the front drive shaft doing that.... :2cents:

22 ft 16 rear. tires are scrwed to the rims.

as for dry hops... i bring it up to 10psi and let go of brake mashing throttle and then immediatley back on the brake after it starts to spin. the time beofre i get back on the brake is dependant on how far to either side the rear turns. if it would stay straight i wouldnt get on the brake till the top bulb came on. lol :)

That's encouraging to see with the wide tires too as I've been considering going with wider wheels/tires to get better 60' times but some say I would hurt the performance. Do your fronts rub when you turn or did you grind down the suspension part that they tend to rub on?

Also, at what pressure will I need to be more concerned with rotating the tire on the wheel and needing to get them re-balanced??

Re: What tire pressure do you run for 1/4 mile runs?

I have been out of town and missed your post. Personally, I would only run the wider rear tires on the heavier ty's. The longer wheel base and lighter rear weight of the sy seems to do great with the 275-40-17 or 16" drag radials.

I am using Jeff Scotts front arm and they do not rub. And yes the stock arms rubs if not trimed back a little.

The pressures that I stated in the previous thread are for the track. I run 28# all around on the street...

Re: What tire pressure do you run for 1/4 mile runs?

Well... I already ordered my 285/35/18 fronts so I'm pretty well committed to this combo. Up next are the 335 rears and wheels so I need to know more details on making them work.
