Re: zq8 QUESTION
Here is some info I just dug up SY's have a 16:1 / 13:1 variable ratio steering box Ty's are fixed 17:1
now the 2 wheel drive trucks with power steering are 15:1 /13:1 variable the ZQ8 is a sport suspension package with power steering, the steering box is not special, I have a red 1991 ordering
spec book that shows the specs, S10 Blazers and S15 Jimmys share the fixed 17:1 ratio, all 2 wheel drive S10, S15 and Sonoma with power steering have the 15:1/ 13:1 variable, That is why guys with SYs check the number of turns on the old boxes they pull out are the same as the 2 wheel drive
boxes, Sy guys and gals if your stock steering box is tight, just replace the steering shaft and pitman if it is loose, also most full size GM and GMC trucks use the same Steering box that is in our SY's, So the TY Owners with the fixed 17:1 ratio boxes will gain some increased response
with the the 16:1 / 13:1 type box or the 15:1 / 13:1 2 wheel drive box, I myself did a swap out a couple of weeks ago with one of the boxes I bought of this board, as I checked the number of turns
both boxes had the same amount , thats what started me on this quest about what was in the ZQ8 package,it is listed as G51 rear springs, F51 shocks and a N40 power steering, the N40 is not a special quick ratio steering box, it's just the optional power steering 15:1/ 13:1 ratio you could get on any 2 wheel drive S10, S15 or Sonoma, I hope this helps clear up any Questions About the ZQ8 option.
Again the TY owners can get faster steering response from going with the N40 2 wheel drive steering box.
