Re: Progress of Bowtie motor

Well just a little update. My progress has come to a end in a bad way. The motor had to come back out ofthe truck, because of leaking problems. I thought it was the intake but that was not the problem once I had taken it off inspected it and reinstalled it., then pressure test the motor to find that it was leaking down from the head gaskets and not to mention the freeze plugs.

So last night I decided to pull the motor completely apart and go through everything to make me feel better about the motor, and only to find uncoated custom JE pistons, Standard uncoated mains, and rod bearings, which I had disscussed putting coated pistons and bearings, and thought I payed for. Studs that had no thread sealer on a couple of the holes that went through into the water jackets, my gapless rings that all the gaps lined up on some not all of my pistons, No dowl pins in either of my heads, pushrods that where not clearenced properly, and where rubbing the heads.

Just to mention a few things. I hopfully will have it back together in the next few weeks. I will post the sad pics of it all torn apart later tonight.

I'm not gonna mention names, but everyone here knows who had my motor for 9 months building it.

Oh man that doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about my motor he had for 9 months also! I just got mine slung in between the rails yesterday, and it will be a few days before I will know if I have any problems.

I hope it all works out in the end!

Re: Progress of Bowtie motor

Nope nothing back. But I did get a responce as to you cant expect a builder to warrenty his work if he doesn't finish it, and thats what you get when I didnt finish the motor

Keep in mind its only taken 9 months and alot of begging to finaly get it back, and its only ran for about Ha about a hour total time. I do recall picking up a complete motor has all of you have seen the pics of the motor on my engine stand in the back of my truck just after it being picked up, minus a intake mainfold being installed only because he said he had ripped the intake gasket when trying to install it?, which I had to replace and put on my self after I had payed ALOT of money and waited long enough time for this motor to be complete when I picked it up.

The only reason this motor was not done myself, was because, has some of you know my Job contains most of the year racing, so I didn't have the time, but Now I am doing it myself with the professional help from friends that work on the Cup teams.

I dont like, and have never bashed anyone like this before, but I am very disapointed in this whole situation

Re: Progress of Bowtie motor

very sorry to hear that, I just can't believe people don't stand behind their work, especially in such a small community, its not like no one knows or will find out who built it.

I guess the 2nd income isn't that important

Re: Progress of Bowtie motor

Jammie, I know a engine builder local to me who does a lot of major motor builds for many different types of racing series, including nhra, and monster truck motors. He even has built a few motors for personal friends. I know for a fact that he is a little behind and about 3 months back. But if you need another shop recomended I can give you his number. He can do everything except cut cranks. (he says that its pointless and would rather buy new every time unless nothing else can be done)

Just an option, and the builder I speak of if doing my motor. If you want the info, just PM me. ;)

Re: Progress of Bowtie motor

Ok for some of you that dont know the differance between a coated bearing, and one thats not. The ones that not are the ones that just came out of my motor after a hour of run time.
