Did I just read that right?! :rotf:

j/k
If you trust Scott Kilpatrick then don't be surprised if you wake up one day a realized that he stole your truck, your wife, emptied your bank account, and booby-trapped your house. He once told me that trusting him was the biggest mistake that you can make, besides eating his Lucky Charms. He's not the kind to be messed with, much less trusted. :rotf:

Sorry for the aside....back to the thread.

On a side note, my ex manager at Citigroup is into sport bikes and he thinks you're cool.

Thats funny, my current manager is big into touring bikes and watches a lot of races, I asked if he had ever heard of Jaime and his eyes lit up.. apparently he is a big fan, I guess he had met Jaime at one point at a race up north said he was super nice.

big  to Mr. Hacking for having an awesome job and a great hobby :D

Thank you for the link, and the explanation. My suspicions based on geography were correct. Now I don't have to guess. And it puts other possible builders 'in the clear' on this, IMO.

Other than hoping this gets resolved between the concerned parties, I have no interest in this transaction, so I'm gone.... DP

I say dump the bowtie motor, fill the engine bay and bed with a bunch of spare race bike motors Jamie.

Probably be more reliable that way.

I don't think it would be as cool with the sportbike motors in it, but they would be free at least. I'm testing in California at the moment, the crank is being reblanced, the pistons my buddy just picked up yesterday from being coated, so when I get home tomorrow I can start putting it back together myself.

Will you and your crew be at MOTO GP at Laguna Seca in California?

You know what would be nice, if Jamie send an email saying you are a friend of his.. maybe you will get that promotion. :)

while i'm sure my boss would find that amusing it probably wouldn't help me get a promotion or anything. the quality of my work alone warrents the promotion

I feel the need to step in here and correct some of the inaccurate information that has been given about the motor that jamie picked up.

The pistons were not coated because when JE contacted me and told me it would take an extra week to do the work jamie decided that he didn't want to wait.
The bearings were not coated because when the engine builder was done with them and ready to be sent out he didn't want to wait.
The ring gaps in GAPLESS rings don't matter and I highly doubt they all lined up. this is from a builder with nearly 40yrs experience.

Jamie picked up the motor when it was NOT finished. the intake had not been installed yet and therefore could not be pressure tested for water or oil leaks. He knew that and decided against waiting another 4 days for intake gaskets.
Jamie also removed the oil pan and valve covers and drilled them and welded new fitting into them because he didn't want to wait.
Jamie also told me that he ground on the heads (with motor assembled) to give the pushrods more clearance after I had done it on the bench.
Head dowel pins are useless with a motor that has head studs.

I know of no engine builder in the world that would warrenty a motor that had been opened up after he built it. Even after learning that it had been opened up I offered to fix the motor free of charge.
Jamie then said he would fix it himself. I then told him good luck and that there wasn't anything else I could do for him.

I have now given my side of the story and you all can decide for yourselves who is the bad guy. Its a sucky deal all around and I offered help and was refused. There is only so much I can do.

I am done with this topic and if anyone would like any more information please call or pm or email me.

No coment. He knows good and well this isn't true.

On a good note I picked up my crank from being check to see how balanced it was from the original builder, and I'm glad I took the TIME to have it done. Of corse it was out of blance, I will post up the print out of how off blance it was. The pistons are all coated tops, sides, and undersides, and look good. Things should be going back together well.

Who'd you have coat the pistons, if you don't mind me asking? Or did you reorder new pistons with the coating on them already?

Hell if I know, I used what was given to me, only made my comment based on the fact it was easy to do and didn't take much time at all.

Sorry I don't have a real response.

Just out of curiosity on the crank were the pistons and rods switched in the coating process I cant imagine the coating adding any extra weight but what was the target wieght for balanceing.

usually if the crank is balanced (summing it was in the first place) they dont usually mess around with doing it wrong becuase if you going to spend the time it is usually done correctly other that human error

wouldent coating the bearings change the tolorances?? both sides, coated gotta be several thousands(.000)..no?
not enough to matter? just curious.

For DL-5, 0.5 μm (0.000020 inch) pretty insignificant.
