Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

Vac lines are vacuum lines, which run everywhere. They supply vacuum to various components to open/close valves/dampers, tell the computer whats going on, etc. Check the timing, since it may be off a tick or two, as well as the wastegate control to make sure it's not sticking open or anything. A few of the "must do" mods are upgrade the fuel pump, hotwire the IC pump, trans cooler, trans temp gauge, lower IC scoop, and front propshaft loop (it will save you money/damage in the even the propshaft frags). Very clean truck BTW, you found a 'beaut!

Wow, thanks for the ideas. I did just find a spout under the throttle body that is open (nothing plugged into it). Is there supposed to be something there? I can get a pic up in a few minutes.

No that's not used on our trucks.. it was used on the corvettes and fbodies as a coolent passage for the throttlebody. I would replace the vacuum lines because it's a cheap way to possibly help your issues plus it's very common problem area with our trucks being so old.

I'd also listen to the suggestions above.. a walbro 255 or simular fuel pump is a must.. don't launch the truck without half a tank of fuel or more or it'll slush away from the pick of the pump and starve the motor. Also hot-wire the ic pump so it's running all the time.. the stock chip doesn't turn it on until everything's been way heat soaked... there's more but do a search on here and you'll find everything.

also here's some good write ups to follow

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

Thanks for the help. I bumped an idle misfire thread I found that had the same problems I am having. Not sure what he did to fix it but I hope to hear from him soon.

I think he may be talking about this one pointing down from the TB. I'm not 100% positive but I think it goes to the charcoal canister.

I would replace all the vacuum lines with new ones. If you search on here you'll find a diagram that shows where all the vacuum lines are. I was having a rough idle and found that I had some small cracks in the lines. Replaced them and it made a huge diffference.

That's looks like it. Someone mentioned it was a coolant intake for other models and I believe I knew that....just wasn't sure about the Sy's. Thanks guys.

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

Yea, here ya go I found this and that one does go to the cannister.

Hope it helps

Thank you. I was just searching for that with no luck. Guess I'll start replacing tomorrow.

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

Found a couple things today. A small red power wire with inline fuse from the fuse box to a relay on the drivers side firewall. What is that? And from a group of wires real close to that there is an orange wire that has been cut and and the end has electrical tape over it. What is that?

Also I think there may be a small vaccum line already through the firewall it's just been cut. Ok to tap into that for my new gauge?

Big pics and small video of my idle coming as soon as they load.

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

Ok Orange Wire is taped off with electrical tape. Comes out of bundle of wire behind it. Red Wire is connected to the second relay.

And this is where the Red Wire ends up...I know it's black there but it's Red after the fuse.

And this is where the Red Wire goes through and there seems to be a small black hose coming through as well. I'm going to assume thats a vac line and hook up to it.

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

Initially I was thinking that the wires were part of an alarm system because you need relays to correct the polarity of the door lock actuators on these trucks. (maybe the newer alarms already compensate for this, my GT was new when I was installing alarms) After looking at the pictures I'm not sure, it could be a number of things but being under the hood I doubt it's alarm related.

The black hose with vacuum is probably for a vac/boost gauge. Follow if back through and see if it's connected to a vacuum line. You'll have to replace it once you get a boost gauge but you can plug it up for now.

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

I think both of those are for a boost gauge. My power line for my boost gauge is plugged into a similar slot on the fuse box. Follow that vacuum line into the engine and see where it goes. Does it feel like air is sucking into that line while the truck is running? Post a pic of the engine, mainly the upper manifold area if you can. That video clip looks like it is idleing perfect? When just started, after the rpms come back down, mine will do a bobbing motion. The rpms will go down in the 4/500 rpm range and boost will compensate it and bring it up to 8/900's then back to 4/500, etc.... But after I start driving it, it quits. I can shut it off, start it up and everything is good. Only the initial cold startup. Weird.

Well I can't follow that hose into the engine bay. Its tucked way underneath the (master cylinder???) on the drivers side fire wall. I stared at that motor last night for 30 mins looking for a vacuum line to no avail. I did try to rig my boost gauge up to it but I got nothing so I'm not sure what it is or if it's been cut on the other side too.

I'm not so much worried about the idle now as I am the power of the truck. It's just not there. At WOT it feels like it wants to go but can't. The turbo spools the tranny shifts hard....the truck just isn't going. HELP!

Re: WWsy/ty.netD?

I noticed when you were reving the truck the boost gauge would go from zero to the middle quickly instead of going up gradually. You werent even reving it much. Depending if you have the throttle all the way or not mine would go slow or fast. That might be something to look at.

Just another little point of mine if you see a wire especially at the fuse box that you dont know what it is get a test light to start off and trace it or just unplug it and see what doesnt work. I pulled out a BUNCH of wires from my truck. A BUNCH. It was old alarm(s), yes more then one. I also noticed that the factory alarm started to work and I also always noticed that i didnt have the delay when i turned the key to start it. The dam thing must have had three relays to go through before it hit the starter. Sometimes it pays to remove the crap and start off fresh.

Good advice. And as far as the throttle goes most of the revs I merely gave the pedal a quick push. When I held it down you can see the tach starts slow and then takes off. I have an aftermarket gauge to hook up tonite. There's is something amiss and I can not find it.
