Re: A ton of lost knowledge and experience...

I talked to Dave this morning about an A/C question. As always, he was very generous and tried to help me. He is a good fellow, and has always been nice to me.

DaveP had a lot of great information. It's a shame he removed it all. There isn't one thing of his that can't be reproduced. It just takes time. He wasn't born with the knowledge of SyTys, he had to learn it. There are much more complex things in the world than these trucks. Would it be great if all the answers we back & all we had to do we skip the hard parts? Sure, help is great, but how do you think he did it?

So DaveP, if you see lurking out there, enjoy the show. :D

Since we have no promise of the morrow, let alone next month, you might wanna give your boy a shout out today. I have his number if you need it but with all the info you possess, you probably already have it.

Time to make a ringy-dingy ;).

If my luxurious flowing locks start falling out of my head before July,I might call.

I mean if I'm 1/2 bald I'm prolly 1/2 dead,right?

Haven't lost a single hair ever, I got July NP.

Re: A ton of lost knowledge and experience...

At med school, we meet people with various diseases and conditions. One instance was when we met a blind man.

His sight was variable and deteriorates but he had brief respites when he could see things slightly more clearly. We all thought this was great and that he'd appreciate the opportunity to see even if only briefly. He asked us about this and then explained that it was worse than being blind. It was incredibly frustrating for him and other blind people; they preferred to get on with their lives knowing their limitations and not having their sight taken away arbitrarily only to reappear briefly and frustrate them later on.

There are by my reckoning about 200 threads that survive DaveP's cull. I know he used to have about 1800 posts. There are probably way more that have lost their coherence and much of their value because of the disruption and deletion at Dave's hand.

Yes, he is entitled to withdraw his comments but if they are quoted then it's too late. I would encourage everyone to quote his posts as they are mostly useful. The question must be asked - why does he feel the need to delete useful information in the first place? A quick search reveals numerous posts stating that he fixed this / doesn't need that/ it's no longer an issue etc. Parts of the forum are like a ghost town.

If he doesn't want to share knowledge then fine but he should know that it forms part of the fabric of the site and by removing it, you unravel the tapestry of knowledge and learning and undermine the whole forum.

if you also take in to account some of the more offensive outbursts and personal attacks, you have to ask why he's even a member. He belittles new people, deletes useful information and generally contributes in a negative and temporary way.

I would rather have a forum where there may be questions unanswered than know that someone was deleting answers to those very questions. All of those threads are now unanswered and as many knowledgeable people have left, they may never be answered. They've certainly undone many many solutions.

If the servers on the forum acted as erratically and unpredictably, you would replace them for being unreliable. It's an untenable situation.

For that reason, I would impose a ban on the deletion of any more posts and the making of any more by DaveP. If you don't want to contribute then don't do so. I tried to find the forum terms and conditions as I feel that you should expect your contributions to be permanent, not whimsical. Edits for spelling and factual inaccuracies are one thing but wholesale deletion is totally incomprehensible.

It's not my forum but I do try and contribute both with knowledge I have earned through painful experience and also with my limited funds to pay for the upkeep. I feel I have a right to air this grievance and it appear others agree.

Sorry Dave but I think this sort of behaviour is incredibly poor. Someone as intelligent as you should know better.

On some other forums I am on, you can only modify your post for 15 mins after the initial post. After that you cannot change anything. Maybe we should do the same here?? I do like Dave's input and he is very valuable but sometimes he does get mad over simple things at times IMO.

I'll give him a holler in July.

At the risk of sounding like an [American] asshole, and maybe having to put on a flame suit, we have this cool thing here in the US. It's called freedom. It sure seems to me that Dave has used that freedom to delete some posts. I know I'm not the only one that, at least partially understands why he did what he did.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Dave for helping me with my truck, when I couldn't get a runability issue figured out on my own. Dave, my appreciation is long overdue. Thank you!

Re: A ton of lost knowledge and experience...

Gemelli You don't sound like an asshole but you do sound like an american.:rotf: I agree that is Freedom, but really in this case that freedom also rips this forum of knowledge and what does that accomplish? We are a small group as it is.:(
Like I have said before, I don't dislike Dave I don't know him personally or have directly talked to him but his knowledge is really up there and I like the knowledge he does bring to the table. Though when he goes back and delete posts when some issues comes up is like a spoiled kid that cries and stomps his feet when things don't go right! Yes, you are right that I don't know all the details on why he does what he does, though he has done this several times and I don't know why.

I guess from my view is that a few(?) assholes ruin it for the majority. This is like the george blake subsection of the forum. Shit went down between George and others and george wanted out (which is fine) but then not long after his subsection was removed! There was lots of info in that section which is now gone.... well... at least gone from here... Good thing I have a copy of that subsection before it went away. ;)

Just to be clear, I am not arguing with you, just giving my 'Canadian' thoughts.:2cents: Have a good one.

Freedom of speech doesn't apply to a private forum that you have ask for permission to be part of, and can be banned for not following the rules. Why cant we post porn? cause its a private forum.....

let him be its his choice

story time:
In the Buick turbo world their was a racer/legend named Buddy who was well respected and revered.
He had set SPEED records- and was at the top of the world in his knowledge on these cars.
However he never shared any secrets and always keep it to himself EVEN WHEN ASKED.

Well one day poor Buddy died and took all that knowledge with him LOST FOREVER.
and the people he didn't help - didn't give a ****
