I thought it was T-Bone, and I thought it was funny as hell that people fell for it thinking he would actually buy it and part it out. If I was Shaun, I would have taking credit for the joke getting everybody's panties twisted.

i saw the space right away...and thought it was damn funny. T-bone...in my opinion the only people you should be mad at is anyone blasting away at you as if you were going to part the ppg out.

I applaud those members for sticking up for the truck, and glad to see there's members who care about saving the only truck of it's kind. It's not like we have several to chose from, so it's OK to part it out. I must say I'm disappointed in any member that was interested in the parts so called offered. And it doesn't help show it's a joke when the poster adds more comments, as if serious.[

It was a pretty well played out prank...and anyone that posted in the thread in outrage/disbelief that someone was going to part out the truck....if they can't laugh that it was a joke...then they need to just step back and look at the big picture here. It was a joke. I just reread it and there is nothing mean spirited in what was said as "t -bone". It's not an abuse of power. And the person suggesting he sues...wtf. Sue for what? What a waste of time/effort that would be. Who would you sue? :lol:

What for trying to save the only truck ever made? Especially when there's people not realizing it's a joke? and why would they? Everyone's accounts get hacked every week right, so it's got to be a joke when I notice great details like gaps in member names. It looked too legit, and like yourself in your post they could have used smileys :lol: or instead say " I'm parting it out to pay for the tow bill home and jack stand payments on my credit card" to make it obvious it's a joke.

As far as leaving the site due to immature people....c'mon. A lot of people come here as an escape from the reality of their monotonous jobs, frustrating personal issues, sheer boredom...and a lot of them enjoy having a place as a release. If we can't have fun as a group once in a while, then whats it all going to turn into? People poke back and forth. T-bone...you have to admit you had some fun when you and Jeremy were going back and forth talking about racing trucks/bikes/cars at the track/dragon. Other people could look at that as the same sort of childish immature behavior. Most people got a kick out of it....as i believe most people should get a kick out of the ppg thread.

I'm sure they would've got a kick out of it, had it been obvious it was a joke. But some members didn't realize it. I'm sure my coworkers had fun watching me be angry all week and listening to me gripe about it. I'm sure T-Bone really appreciates all the people mad at him and who knows if he got unfriendly emails. Sure makes a nice escape to get on the site, and discover the "fun" and stress release.

The only failed humor thread that i can remember at this point is when a thread was started saying another board member was in a bad accident hanging onto life in the hospital. His mother was called and experience some massive panicking thinking her son was in the hospital. That one didn't go quite as planned...but was also roughly 8 yrs ago.

I think this falls into the immature catagory that some members are refering to. I remember vaguely when I discovered this forum that there was a member or two saying they were unhappy and leaving the site. Anyone can be a guest and monitor what goes on here, and it can effect the image of the trucks and members. Most people have no clue about these trucks in general, but potential new buyers looking for info could read about "my truck on jack stands" and not understand like we do. Then get scared off from wanting to buy one and join the community (and maybe attend the syty events) because they may see that "my login got hacked by an administrator". Look at other ends of the "big picture" it may not set a great image for representing the community. People take things differently. It's happened with some TBSS guys to start a new forum of their own due to issues.

I think a lot of people are overgeneralizing/stereotyping that there are way too many immature people around here. Offtopic has barely any posts anymore compared to years ago. There are way more real discussions and tech talk now than there has ever been...which is impressive to me since its not like there are more trucks showing up, or newer trucks. We're still all just coming up with new things to do to our trucks, some 17 yrs later. That's impressive.

That's great to hear as long as no one is trying to destroy trucks on purpose. We've lost many trucks over the years, and some parted out when they could've been saved. I've seen a member on here recently that was upset about a guy parting out his truck with "minor isues" So I know I'm not alone on this. Let's spend more time on Tech and History and less on playing jokes at others exspence.

1 He was doing it to have a laugh at people going mad. ( Im sure we all new it was going to fetch way too much money to make a profit parting it out)

I appreciated the prank, but can see how T-Bone feels wronged, that comes along with being the butt of any joke. Personally I think I'd be more irked at those (not just in that thread) who immediately pounce to tell someone what to do with THEIR property. There were at least a dozen posts on the first page alone that fed into it as if it were a joke. Jokes/pranks aren't funny if everyone "gets it". Kudos to whomever pulled it off.

t-bone wasn't wronged. Had he not been the most recent person to part out a truck that many people argued should not have been parted out....then the prank most likely would have been done under another name. This is just how it was made to look believable.

As for the unhappiness/people leaving/etc...there was a LOT more going on back in the day. Fueds between certain members and certain vendors. Finger pointing, lawsuits, internet bullying, threats...yes that was not a highlight of syty.net's history. BUT don't blame the site, blame the members.

Us admins/mods get heckled if we locked threads, and heckled if we don't. We feel it our responsibility to allow everyone to voice their opinions and air greivances. It was mentioned earlier that there should be a revote of admins/mods and cut back to only 2? haha...you obviously have never been a admin/mod of any board. It takes a lot of eyes/time to read every post of every thread..even on a smaller board like our own. I spend a LOT of time on this site and still don't have the ability to moderate every word of every post of every thread. I myself enjoy attempting to contribute rather than police...and i know the rest of us feel the same way.

No action is going to be taken against the responsible party(ies) involved in the prank. There is no reason to.

T-bone....when did you become aware of the thread? Had you only just gotten word of it recently? You hadn't logged into the site for a month or so prior to it. Just curious if you let it play out before complaining....or if this was the first time you'd seen it.

Poorboy...i can understand your viewpoint, and thanks for breaking down my post and showing the other fully appropriate side to my statement. I'm sorry that the thread put you into a foul mood all week. I'm sure that wasn't the motive for the thread, but just to have a little fun with arguably the most noteable syclone around. I think it's great that people were that passionate for it, and wanting it to remain whole.

My saying tbone should be mad at those blasting him in the thread....i'm simply trying to point out multiple sides to the story. I'm defending us admins/mods. Had he been around the site recently, the joke wouldn't have lasted anywhere near as long as he did.

T-bones account was not hacked. A new/different account was made, and since deleted.

So, are we going to know who did it? I think it's only fair that, with T-Bone being unhappy about it and others not appreciating it, we know which Mod/Admin person set it up. Does that person have the balls to 'please stand up' and take some of the abuse that T-Bone did?

Well, I was going to stay out of this since (for once) it didnt involve me whatsoever, however I keep seeing this word "privileges" popping up and I dont understand how T-Bones "privileges" were abused. There was no illegal activity going on, nothing was hacked, no personal information was released, infact not even once did the duplicate account even sign his name to any post.

It was noting more than a similar screen name, with an avatar and location information copied from the real profile, something EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this site could see by looking anyones profile given that the person puts information in the space provided.

The ONLY thing that was altered to make the account "believable" was the post count and the registration date, but I highly doubt anyone would have even noticed that anyway.

I honestly didnt know it was a duplicate account until I was TOLD it wasnt really him, so you can put me on the "fooled list" as well, but I didnt give a crap when I read it when I thought it was the real T-Bone, and I didnt give a crap when I heard it wasnt really him. I have more important things to do than worry about a silly practical joke on an internet forum.

So for those blaming the mods/admins for this crap, please get a clue on how things work before you go pointing fingers, no admin or mod was behind the posting of this thread, plain and simple.

As for T-Bones credibility, give me a break. My screen name is Captain Morgan, I use that screen name on MANY forums Im on, are their other Captain Morgans on other car forums out there?? you better believe it! Do you know how many times I get asked if Im on suchandsuch.com?? The fact being that this is a small community and probably 99% of those "hurt" by the joke thread already know or will know by the end of the week that the REAL T-Bone was not behind that thread and everyone will get over it and forget about it. I honestly feel my character would be more hurt by "other" Captain Morgans on other websites making themselves look stupid than I would had someone tried to make me look foolish on a small close knit site like syty.net.

I know Shaun and I have had our differences in the past, so Im not sure if he assumed I had involvement in this, but I can honestly say I did not.

In closing, I really do believe some people got bent out of shape over that thread, I'm not saying your opinions are wrong, afterall they are your feelings, but just give it a week and see if you REALLY give a crap about it then. If you can't find something more important in real life to get bent out of shape over by then, then I would really like to know where you live cause I'd totally love to live in Perfectville, USA for just a couple days. :tup:

Well, since you quoted me Morgan, I'll just clarify a few things... the 'privileges' I referred to are the privileges of the Mods/Admins.... for those of us not in the I.T. world, we would assume it would take an Admin or Mod to change the # of posts. From what you're saying, whoever did this just put the number of posts as the sig below his avatar?? If so, that makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure about the registration date... how does that work??

well, if T-bone went there, there are still many bidder that go there also, i don't see the problem, you're either intrested in the PPG for an amount of money, or you stay out of bidding.
i wouldn't have seen it parted, altough if we bought it as a group and than parted it out like1/2 maybe within 20 years some rich guy finds it, and buys all the stuff back from us member for 100x more. but that's just good thinking there.

No you are correct, it did take a staff member to change the post # and the registration date, the way I read your post and the others in this thread was that T-Bones privlages or personal information (privacy) had been violated, but that is not the case.

I'm an asshole, not a liar. I was away from the forum most of this weekend, so I basically had people calling me to tell me what was going on. Like I stated I had no intention of getting myself involved in this mess, my main point was to assure everyone that no personal information, rights or privlages of the members had been violated, hacked or changed in any way.

Now I fully understand why you are upset more than most. I'm without a doubt certain that this was not the intention of the thread. I must say that I'm truely impressed with your efforts and desire to attempt and save the truck, I know that doesn't change things or give you back the time spent doing all you mentioned above, but Im sure many will feel the same way I do when they read your post. Had the person who made the thread known how many people would take things this far, it would have probably never been started, but second grade actions or not, many times in life things look better on paper than they do when they are actually put into actions.
