Aftermarket cladding.

why is the plastic cladding straight from gm so friggin expensive? my god, when i broke the drivers side fender cladding i went to gm for a replacement and when i saw the price, said fuck it and did a halfway decent repair job on the broken piece. i would be VERY interested in getting a fiberglass replacement but my one concern is that it will not match the rest of the cladding. not in terms of quality but the fact that i have a syclone with unpainted cladding. will i end up with a bright glossy glass piece and the rest flat black? should i just do the whole truck in fiberglass? what if i painted the factory cladding along with the glass, then would it match up? just some questions. sorry to totally change the subject but i know im not the only one wondering

also, after getting all excited about the carbon fiber front clip, wondering if maybe i should just wait for that.....

would you do that as, like, a piece for show, or a cheaper paintable version. ill just paint mine, i dont need everyone (public in general) seeing an all carbon fiber truck, the potential for it being a target for being stolen increases dramatically and then the bed cover sounds amazing too. now that id probably like to show...

as far as keeping secrets go: if i had any, id share 'em with you guys. as far as the rest of the world goes...if the rest of the world doesnt know what a syclone is, they dont need to know what MINE is.

1. Original Design GMC Syclone Kit: $600.00
2. Custom Extended Cab Vrsion Sy: $700.00
3. Custom Long Bed Version Sy: $700.00
4. Original Design GMC Typhoon Kit: $600.00
5. Custom 4 Door Ty $700.00
6. Super Custom X-Cab + Long Bed Sy: $7500.00
&. Super Custom Tandem Rear Axle Sy: $800.00
9. Front Bumper Cover Alone: $150.00
10. Rear Rol Pan Alone *: $100.00
* (Add $50.00 for ZR1 or C5 light kit)

The only thing I will do differently is that the sides are 1 peice on the Ty and the bed will be 1 peice on the SY instead oseparate wheel arches. These prices DO NOT include shipping. Lead time is 3 months from date of order. 30 % deposite due at time of order. No, they are not ready for paint. They are rough glass and require prep work before prime and paint. Colors? Very good idea. I thought of it to.

Sounds like you will need to spend another $800 at the body shop to have them prepare the cladding for paint/fit. For $1800 the fiberglass cladding currently available is a great deal. You want a quality product, and not some homeade cladding kit I suggest buying the kit from Paul. PLus I would rather not see every $500 blazer buying a $500 cladding kit and looking like a syty. Sytys are cool b/c they are unique and you dont see them. I would hate to see half of the blazers running around looking like sytys.

So where in the "I screw my sister because I'm a mullet wearing redneck" would the shipping be from for the Tandem axle Sy kit ?

Thats just some ghetto assed knock off stuff from someones backyard. Just remember that you get what you pay for.

Carbon fiber is cool - but it does not lay that well around corners. If you wanted to show off that it was carbon fiber - then you would have to either vacuum bag or autoclave the parts. Turns out bitchen - but it costs.

Its not the parts or materials that are expensive - its the molds. The time to make the molds.

First you make the plugs - or in this case you can pull a mold from the original parts. Then you make a good mold that you can produce good parts out of it takes a bit of skill.

Just about anyone with a book on fiberglass could pull parts , but if you don't want it to look like ass - have someone that knows glass do it.

lets just say that some of the parts you want to make copies of arent flat in the first place.

And when people buy the originals, sure they'll complain if they even notice. but if your selling aftermarket stuff that has that same wave in it, im sure you'll get more complaints then you can handle.

sean's right on the vacuum bagging... required for a good final piece.. absolutely required. You can make something without it, but it just wont be the same.

(saving up the cash for a pump and a couple of bags)

I'm going to be making some cool intakes for our trucks out of aluminum and a matching tuned exhaust. I'm looking into making the upper plenmun out of carbon fiber and valve covers

Dude, if you can make a lower intake manifold that would allow vortec heads to be a direct bolt on and bolt to the stock upper intake, you would have people lined up! Let us know if this is a possibility.

Ohio. Is that hick enough for ya? And no, I don't have 480 volt power supplies in my back yard so I won't be making them at home. In fact, I won't be making them at all. I'm just willing to put through a purchase order large enough to have them made. It's called mass production. It's how things get done right and cheap. A local air plane part manufacturer has bid on the job. And yes, it will envole prep work the same as a hood before you paint it. Anybody with any body experience could have this thing sanded and primed in 1 day's work, so how expensive could that really be? But then again, I've heard some pretty outrageous prices for things before, like $400.00 for a new tailgate when an S-10 has the exact same one and they are a dime a dozen for a used one in good shape. So, no you don't always get what you pay for! Sometimes you pay a lot more than what you actually get is really worth. It's all a matter of supply and demand. I have demanded long enough. Now I will supply.
