Aftermarket cladding.

Does anyone make an aftermarket replacement cladding. I'm new and this is probably an old topic in your realm. If not, I was talking to the manufacturer of Buick fiberglass parts. Asked if they made Sy/Ty cladding.Mentioned that original stuff was very expensive and there was probably a big demand, not just replacement but folk may want it for there sonoma, s10, jimmy what ever. She sounded very interested. Don't know who to talk to but I can pass on some contact info if there is a big response. Also I am not on the mail list so you may want to post this.

matter of fact there is an aftermarket cladding...

there is a guy in SoCal who molded the real stuff and is now making exact copies of cladding out of fiberglass...

he sells the peices for about half the cost of the real stuff...and looks just as good.

i'll get his contact info and post here...

I would doubt it as the fiberglass cladding is meant as a good replacement for SyTy owners with broken cladding that either can't find or afford the original stuff. My guess is that the S-15 Jimmy and S-10 reg. cab are gonna be the only things it would work on.

I checked out Rockford Racecraft. Are they the only ones that make aftermarket cladding?
$4225.20 Yikes, Thats damn near the price of the truck.

I thought TyphoonAddict knew of somewhere that makes replacement cladding. I know he posted something about it on s-series.org a while back.

I think this might be the guy you guys are talking about. I know I emailed him for a new front piece of cladding so when I do shows I can switch the pieces. I have not bought one from him yet since I am in the process of moving but will once I get settled in.

$1,800.00 is rediculous when you look at what you get. My God, it's fricking plastic! Come on, let's get real! I've been working with fiberglass for a few years now and KNOW that it is cheap to make! I could reproduce the stuff in my garage and sell it for half that if I could just get my hands on some cherry peices. I'd need mint, unpainted, undamaged cladding for bot the truck and SUV for a few weeks to set up the molds. I have posted a general message before on numerous S-10 sites. I've gotten lots of positive feedback but no willing donors. I've been working on this for a while and have the green light from GM. If you are in the Ohio area and are currently in the process of restoring your Sy/Ty and would be willing to temperarily sell your cladding which I will sell back to you for less than I pay to give you a lenders fee profiet, then E-mail me at:

Help to keep a dieing breed looking good.
My future intensions are to do the cladding in ABS plastic and carbon fiber but everyone has to start somewhere. 4 door and x cab and long bed kits will be available. Go to my post on Godfathercustoms.com for more info.

LETS get real...

lets start off, ive been doing fiberglass work for 15 years and counting....the stuff is cheap to BUY, yes, BUT the time and labor spent to have a finished product that resembles a perfect match to the original when finished is exactly what your paying for.

i also could pump out fiberglass cladding out of my garage and sell it for the price of a gallon of resin and still make profit...hell, id even include custom colored dye in case you wanted black, red, green or what have you....

you and i both know that buying the stuff is cake...hell, i can go buy a 50 gallon drum for $100 and make enough pieces to cover all the trucks that attended KC2000...... but actually working with it is not easy and does actually require some skill and crafting to have things come out decent.

your going to waste your time finding a complete set of cladding just to ruin it when someone has already taken the time to make the molds and do the job right..sacrificing HIS OWN cladding to do the job no less...

Paul has done an excellent job in recreating the cladding and is selling it at a fair price. Add up the actual GM costs of the full set of cladding and you'll soon notice that $1800 sounds pretty damn good for parts that are soon becoming impossible to find.

im not trying to bash on ya, but its just pointless to try to do something over again just cause you dont like someones price.

plus, how would you like it if you busted your ass making a product for everyone and then have someone else come up and try to undercut big time your hardwork and efforts?

ive been working on a fiberglass project for the syty, but have yet to open my mouth until i have a finished product so no one can take my hard work and steal it from me...

again, my opinion, but just think about it before you go and rip off someone elses hard work and dedication...

you dont see anyone else trying to rip off phil chivers with his propshaft loops and hood struts, Brian Green's and Todd A.'s Ultimate Chip, Bob Galla's Stainless Steel Turbo/IC Tube.....

why? cause they took the time and dedication to make something for SyTy owners at a fair price that would benefit us as the buyers and them as the sellers...

like i said... my opinion....

How much longer is he going to be selling these pieces? I'd like to get one, but I'm not going to be needing it for a while. Got lots of bodywork to do first... Just want to make sure he'll still be there when I need to pieces.

personaly I think $1800 is a great deal. The dealer wants like $4900 for the kit. Can you please post some pictures of the fiberglass kit. thanks

from the picture, that looks great. does it require any prep work like the fiberglass hoods?

hard to say...since the original stuff doesnt fit very well either, unless you take everything off and take the time to perfect align all of it...im sure the fiberglass fits just the like stock stuff...

however, with the fiberglass...if you know how to use it, im sure with a little time and effort you can have it fit perfect to YOUR truck...
