Air deflector question

I was just curious... Not sure why it matters, or why it crossed my mind.

The original air deflector part under the truck. Mine was never there. I had all the other parts for truck but that was never with my stuff

I just seen a member asking for one in another thread and I just realized mine is not there as well. Just curious as to how many others are missing or were they removed for another reason and never put back on??

No. Though that is a air deflector as well.

The metal aluminum one or cast aluminum under the truck. Might be called a baffle or air deflector. Pretty much under truck almost like a girdle to prevent things from kicking up into engine

Re: Air deflector question

Good luck! I've been trying to find one for a few years now. Even tried to have a couple people try to reproduce it from carbon fiber or fiberglass with no luck.
It's been discussed before with no clear reasoning as to its purpose. Some feel it was a splash shield to protect the crossover while others thought it helped pull air through the lower heat exchanger.

I believe this came off a Typhoon of mine. Any else confirm if that is accurate?

Hmm. I made my Lower Intercooler scoop out of plexiglass, I wonder if I could make that. Does anyone have a pic of it on a truck?

Re: Air deflector question

I just removed the one off my Syclone to do some other work. If you need dimensions or anything I can get them while its off.. I'm going to reinstall it next week and will try to get some pics.

It's made out of plastic. These pics were taken of a fairly low mileage 93 Ty. This is the only syty I recall still having this piece installed. There's a thread on here somewhere where we discussed how it works, IF it worked, and what it's purpose is.

I still think it was intended to deflect some of the air flow from the main fan back into the lower IC to establish a bit of "reverse flow" back through the lower at very low road speed, or when stopped.

Still got mine, just keeping it as with all my stock parts so I am able to put it 100% back to stock if I ever want to

Re: Air deflector question

My Sy came with its original one. The holes are cracked or broken but the shield is in pretty good shape. My Ty had one but it was in really tough shape. A few years ago I found a NOS one, it's perfect, and safely tucked away for future use. They, like our cladding, are very brittle now that they are 20+ years old, so seeing them still on a truck is getting rare.

Re: Air deflector question

what it came down to was that it is too expensive to make vs what someone would pay. I made one prototype, and basically killed the product afterwards since i couldn't make them for the $50 shipped that people wanted to spend.

I would buy one for $150 if it was complete with mounting hardware.

i'll reconsider them...but it won't be until the winter, i have too much on my plate already to take on yet another project. The prototype version wasn't perfect and needed a slight change in bolt hole locations.
