Re: almost there for now -- update *adding Pictures* busy days 4/12
got the valve lash set, though i might tighten it up a little in the future. truck sounds pretty smooth now except for a miss. i guess i fouled out a plug. too hot to check right now. i also think i'm going to need a set of fabbed valve covers for clearence. only issue now is it idles at 1500 rpm at a afr of 12.1 so i'm sure i got a vacum leak still or my lash is off a fuzz. looking back now i think i should have dropped the motor in unmolested and used the stock rockers and manifolds. and added them one step at a time.
here's a break down on how i think of what i'm using
fast xfi -- so far its been pretty simple to work with but setting up the idle is a little complex. there's several tables that effect the idle but pretty self explainatory. i like the fact it has a fuel constant and injector constant so you don't have to completely redo your fueling tables for different injectors or e85. and it works with high or low imp injectors with no modifications.
casper's plug and play harness -- simple and straight forward. i didn't like the fact that the harness is only a few inches too long so i extended it six feet to put the xfi box in the center console but they sell a plug and play extension harness for it. also you need to wire up the fuel pump on its own. but the harness is setup to go sequential if add the required sensor. and the injectors are powered by a seperate relay instead of the ecm.
kb headers -- if i didn't spend so much on them i'd probably scrap them. the make plug access on the number four cylinder almost impossible and the cross overtube was junk, i had to remake it. the jet hot looks kinda like chrome in a can and doesn't really seam to control heat. the turbo position is all wrong for the stock turbo but i suppose a non water cooled turbo would be good.
vortec heads -- the switch wasn't bad, i had to farm out the intake welding but ported it myself, driled the intake pattern, rocker stud conversion with my drill press. nothing to be scared of. i'm looking forward to seeing the improvement from them.
1.6 crane rockers --- they might fit under the stock valve covers but won't fit the pastic ones. you have to have the shortest poly locks you can find.
vortec short block --- fits fine but you need to put a oil return in the pan, some people weld it i just used a pass through an push lock fitting and sealed it with jb weld. if you want a knock sensor you'll have to redrill the hole for the stock type sensor. i left the balance shaft hooked up for now but when i swap the cam i'm pulling the gear.
tytilidie ac delete -- not too bad of a setup, changing the belt is a little rough unless you unbolt the crank pulley. think i might switch to one with a tensioner since this will be my dd. really helps clean up the engine bay.
