I like the sinister, roller look. Is doing this bad for anything?
They don't hook for shit unless you are runnin drag radials. My 60's went from consistant 1.69-1.71's on the stock rims to 1.8-2.0's on the ZR-1's.I thought the bigger footprint would help, boy was I wrong.
They do look AWESOME though 8)

go look up a set of tires to fit those 17X11s...

then price some 17x9.5s....

:fadein:
i can tell you right now, the 275s for the front of my Ty were $158 each, the 315s for the rear were $222 each.

not a major decision breaker IMO

Tire price for the 11's wasnt much of a big deal for me. I got the Sumitomo's from Tire rack for cheap. 315 BF goodrich drag radials arent that much more than the other sizes either. My 60 foot times didnt change from 9.5's to 11's. I thought they would get better with the bigger meats, but I think tires have a huge effect eh?
Looks wise, once you do it, nothing else will do...

The sidewall is the same height as 275's, so I don't think your going to lose anything in 275 vs 315 comaprison.

Let's see:

1. Heavier wheel/tire combo than with 8.5 - 9.5" wide rim.
2. More rolling resistance with wider tire.
3. Truck will push like a pig (understeer) with that much meat in the rear.

Those are the reasons I went with 8.5" wide rims and 255/25/18's instead. Basically, if you're into cornering and roadracing, go with same width all the way around. If you're into just straightline drag racing, get the wide rims and big meats.

OK, thanks for your feedabck but how does that explain the ZR1, most porsches, viper, etc...... they all have big meats.

The Viper and ZR-1 have lots of torque and rear wheel drive...they need it. Porsches have AWD but I don't believe the rears are wider than 295mm - I could be wrong. Also, the wide tires look good and that sells cars. The new liter sportbikes all have 190 rear tires but racers and fast street guys only use 180 rears for faster turn in and better "flickability." Sy/Ty trucks have AWD so why would you need huge tires like that? If I ever start having traction problems, I'll just get some street slicks for the rear. Also, try to keep your overall tire diameter the same or smaller than the stockers so you don't take a performance hit.

Ok, I see your point but they look so good!!!! And a 315/35 has the same O.D. as a 275/40 so I'm OK here. A syclone looks so sinister going down the road with these tires/wheels, like you said, appearance sells!

All wheels are not equal as there are some pretty heavy 8.5 inch wide wheels. These trucks push like pigs with the stock wheels. Going bigger didnt make a difference in that tendancy, here.

Actually, if you are in to drag racing, get some light 16 x 9.5 inch rims with drag radials, otherwise get what looks best...

Being used as a daily driver:

With 275's in the front and 315's in the rear can anyone tell me what tire pressures you're using?

Thanks

Can someone please post some pics with these tires on!!! I bet they look damn good 8)

the ttV8 syclone owned by jason "woundup" is running them in the rear with 315's...he did mention that one of the rear tires (i think right rear) rubs on the cladding when he does his insane hp launches...
