The conversion to vette brakes is one of the best and in my opinion easiest mods to our trucks. The hardest part of this mod is cutting the original brake ears off. This isn't really that bad if you can remove the spindle and work on it in a vice. Everything after that is bolt on. I have done several brake kits that alter the spindle in this way, and the conversion on our truck went the smoothest I have ever done.

Speaking of the rears, after all the controversy with HRV6, does anyone offer the complete package for doing the rear LS1 or Corvette brakes? I would like to do the swap, but I would like to keep the E-brake. Sorry to hijack the thread.

if you do a late second gen s-series rear disk they bolt on and you can use the cables from a similar s-series truck

Re: <Borat voice> Sexy time! New brakes....

its a simple 6 pack install, doing the rears too?

6pack meaning 6 cold ones?

Not doing the rears yet. I want to do those at some point, but have not even begun to look into it. Can I get the same matching c5 brakes for the rear? Or should I say how hard is it to get the matching brakes for the rear to fit?

6 cold ones, unless you have a helper or "hinderance" then figure 16 . the corvette brakes can be made to work but they arent bolt ons like the second gen s10 or camaro

But these do not work with stock wheels, is that right? I really hate my stock brakes.
(And yes, Stock-boy Steve would change his brakes...as long it doesn't change the outward appearance of the truck.)

i don't suppose there is a "sticky" on this mod? perhaps even through the net somewheres? i'd hate to cut the wrong part or even over cut. tia!

If you get the kit from CBR, you get awesome directions with color pictures. The kit is nice and works very well. I would be deleting the ABS while you are doing all of this.

Here is the answer you're looking for.

The F body rear clevis needs to be 7/16 x 1/4 Lokar part number EC81FC for Ford Explorer or Lokar EC80WC Wilwood clevis fits over the F body parkbrake lever.
Lokar cut to fit rear cable EC 80FU.

If you mount the right backing plate on the left side and left backing plate on the right side so the park brake lever pulls forward. The conduit length needs to be 40.5" and overall length is 51.5"

Raybestos catalog list the following:

C5 right rear brake cable overall length is close at 51 13/16" with a conduit length of 45 1/2" part number BC95516, conduit has to be shorted 5" the ends recrimped.

C5 left rear brake cable overall length 53 9/16" with a conduit length of 47 1/2" part number BC 95515, conduit needs to be shorted 5" and the end recrimped back on.

The clevis end on the c5 rear brake cables are list as 3/8 x 1/4 which have to open up to 7/16 to 1/2 long to fit over the rear park brake lever.

I could not get a 2005 F150 rear brake cable to confirm it would work. You need to get the clevis to fit over the park brake lever and the correct overall length and conduit length to make it work.

Yes larger wheels are needed depending on what size brakes. I have 17". Some rotors require even larger wheels, but I didn't want to have to buy new wheels in addition to new brakes. I think if you wanted to stay stock that good pads and rotors are all you really need. I remember someone discussed a stock upgrade before and I believe they determined it wasn't really worth the effort. It's in a thread somewhere, maybe searching would turn it up?

Re: <Borat voice> Sexy time! New brakes....

the second gen blazers use a dual piston caliper and its a bolt on,
best bang for the buck is the ls1 stuff

corvette require bigger wheels I have to run 18s for the c5 brakes I have

Easiest install is the 2nd Gen Blazer stuff (98+ models will get you a dual piston caliper, and slightly larger rotor). It will, like ken said, bolt right on. I've done the conversion on my 2wd truck. HUGE HUGE difference over the stock single piston POS stuff.

dumb question here: and this will werk on our trucks?
