Bov bs

so i searched through the BOV threads and didn't find anything covering the issue I'm having.

In a nutshell the BOV is acting like a wastegate and not a BOV.

I have a Blitz Super Sound Blow Off Valve, with the vacuum line tee'd into the line going to the vacuum ball under the battery. As soon as I get 1psi into boost I can hear the BOV letting air out. If i get on the gas, I barely make 5psi and the BOV sounds like I'm spraying air out of an air compressor.

hmmm ok, must be the adjustment screw. Tighten up the screw a few turns and go on a test run. It seemed to help a little bit. Tighten the screw more and go on a test run. Better, but then when I let off on the gas it doesn't let the air out and i get the same flutter sound as if it wasn't even on there.

Isn't the pressure from the vacuum line supposed to keep the valve shut during boost? No idea what's going on with this thing but it's about to come off and get thrown down the street.

Re: Bov bs

Use a different vac source, that one should have a check valve that stops positive pressure from going to vac ball.

Re: Bov bs

Easiest vac source I've found is to use the vac source on the driver's side of the upper intake that goes into the brake booster. Used a barbed fitting that was tapped with two smaller ports, one for my BOV and the other I plan on using for my pillar boost gauge.

I had the exact same set up you're talking about on my syclone years ago and had the exact same problem. Took the BOV off and threw it in the garage. 8 years later I'm trying it again with the exact same problem.

I have a similar problem with mine at higher boost around 12psi. Do not run the BOV off the check valve run it direct.

Re: Bov bs

I Use a blitz source from intake to brake booster.

Only problem I have it's just a 1bar spring

maybe I'm just confused here... I was under the impression that the vacuum line from the manifold was supposed to provide positive pressure to the valve keeping it shut under boost regardless of how many psi of boost 1-25 etc. Once you let off the gas, the vacuum line should go into vacuum and release positive pressure on the valve and the back pressure from the turbo is then supposed to push the valve open and vent out. The spring adjustment is to adjust the psi of back pressure it takes to open the valve. Have I got it all wrong, and the spring tension is what keeps the valve closed during boost???

You have it right. Any adjustments on a BOV are usually to set how fast you bleed your pressure off. I would try a different BOV. I use the TurboXS RFL and never had any real issues with it. Did you check the condition of the line running to it?

Is this your bush?
Re: Bov bs

This is the company I bought my bov from and its simply put together and easy to hook up. I got mine welded to my aluminum turbo to intercooler pipe and run a tee off of the brakebooster and boost line for my gauge. Great and not obnoxious sounding and simple to fix when anything goes wrong with it. ---- http://jgsturbo.com/wgpg.html

I have the brakebooster line from rpm by the way if u want I can take a pic! Let me know!

Re: Bov bs

I would try a different vaccuum source, rpm sells Nice braided house to the brakebooster with a port for a boost gauge or bov

Re: Bov bs

Are you sure its the BOV? How can you tell? Do you have a boost controler on the truck?
Electronic or manual? The reason I ask is I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the
boost controler set to a low PSI. It just blew past through the gate. Can you remove the BOV and block off the opening and then see if it makes boost? Just thinking. Good luck.

The line itself is new and good. I'm gonna pull the BOV apart and see what's going on. It's almost as if the pressure from the vacuum line isn't going inside the bov to push the valve down. Seeing as it starts to leak at the first sign of boost. So there's gotta be something wrong there... If it is broken, I'll just put the stock hose back on and be done with it... there's other things I'd rather waste money on than another BOV.

You have a dual or single port BOV??

Just finished putting back on my raptor yesterday, had some smog shenanigans. All I can say is wow! I missed that thing! Sure hope yours isn't broke!

I have a manual boost controller with an external gate. I have the controller turned down to 10-12psi, and was making solid boost before the BOV so I don't think that's the issue... in fact, so much boost was going out of the BOV that I couldn't hear anything going out of the wastegate. Pretty convinced that the pressure from the vacuum line is not getting into the BOV to keep the valve shut.

i had a manifold bolt with a bov port on my syclone and had the same problem...

this is the one I have...

I'm gonna pull the top of it off and see what's going on in there.... a seal or something has to be shot.

Re: Bov bs

Looks like a single port to me. I googled some others using this BOV, quickly found a few experiencing leaks and describing the same symptoms, so you may be on to something.

Re: Bov bs

Im running same bov....

And my vacuum source

i added a T into the port

You sure? I must be missing where you T'd it. The line off the brake booster looks like it goes to a boost gauge, and I don't even see a vac hose on the bov. My eyes are bad tho, so I probably just don't see what's really there.

You have good eyes :)
I made a t adapter into the port for the boostgauge and bov not installed on this picture

Re: Bov bs

There is that vac line right under the throttle body on he front of the intake, tie into that one. I'm using that one and mine works great. Plus the new line is much shorter than off the brake booster line.
