Bingo! Manual vehicles see many more throttle drops due to the manual shifts. When someone lets off of the gas abruptly the pressurized intake air has to go somewhere. The BV routes the excess pressure that is cut off by the throttle plate out of the intake plumbing. This is definitely better than being routed back out the way it came, over the compressor wheel (compressor surge). Driving an automatic vehicle, we don't jump off the throttle while we're in boost as often as with a manual.
Blow-off valves are a great way to protect your expensive turbo. However, it's another component that must be installed correctly, and potentially another part to fail.
I recommend a TiAL 50mm Blow-off valve.
