C6 Corvette brake upgrade for the Ty

Re: C6 Corvette brake upgrade for the Ty

alright, i've got the Z51 front setup on the way. $650 shipped from fred beans. also have the cbr kit on the way. fronts = good to go.

i have an ls1 rear disc setup that will also be installed but, would love to do the matching 13" REAR Z51's. anyone have any info on what the bracket would look like, how hard it would be to fab or if anyone already makes them.

i've searched the camaro forums and EVERYONE makes front brackets but i can't find anything on the rears or what the actual difference is between the LS1 rears and the Z51 rears other than the overall diameter.

here's a link ( sorry i don't know whos these are) that shows C5 install on a sy/ty. in the last pic there's an adapter laying with the rear rotors. anyone know who these pics belong to or what that adapter is for?

ok, these pics belong to 4CDFed (i think thats in nik), anyway, the rear hub flange needs to be 'turned down' and you'll loose the e-brake but, at least from his photos, it does appear that the C5 rears (and possible the Z51's) will fit using the LS-1 brackets.

BTW, cbrperformance is currently "out of stock" on the front C5 setup. does anyone have a kit they'd like to let go of?

Re: C6 Corvette brake upgrade for the Ty

i know this is a very old thread but if someone could post up the info on the CBR kit like a part number or what CBR stands for that would be great. also a lil help with the rear kit would be nice. can i just order a conversion kit for rear disk or is there a part off another gm rear end that will bolt right up. thanks!

There is a CBR Performance section in the Vendors Marketplace forum on this site.

This web site is empty, nothing but battle bar.

Anyone that makes a FRONT bracket to adapt the F-bod/C5 caliper to the late model S10 4x4 (with stock rims) will make a good sell.

There is nothing on the market unless you want to drop big bucks into a brake upgrade which most likely requires larger rims = bigger bucks.

The dual piston factory caliper is nothing short of an anchor -although it may work better than the single piston caliper, the weight (~ 7lbs) may not be worth the effort...

A simple bracket to adapt the 'vette aluminum calipers to the front spindle would apeal to many low budget mini truckers.

Maybe someone would volunteer 1 bracket & send it to Renz for manufacture?

Tobin over at Kore3 is willing to make up some brackets. Someone would just need to send him one so he know what he needs to make.

I bought my front and rear calipers from him and was asking if he had a better way of adapting the caliper to our trucks. Far to many people have had the bolts fall out or come loose. I am no engineer but from my stand point have that long of a bolt with a huge aluminum spacer holding that much braking force does not make sense to me

I planned to rip the kit off my truck this winter and send it to him and see what he could do but if someone is able to now that would get them done sooner. He did say it may take a little while to get them made so I would recommend someone contact him.

He posts a decent amount on the pro touring forum no reason he couldnt or wouldnt post here.

I was going to send the whole thing, lines and all just so he would be able to make a compareable kit but with a slightly better mounting bracket.

I like the cbr kit and what it does but I don't like that he hasnt made these brackets for months which many people want. I got lucky getting mine because someone was selling there kit they didnt need anymore.

His website is www.kore3.com he makes a lot of great parts and sells the corvette parts at a very good price. He also sells dba rotors which are very nice and he sells them for a great price too.
Kinda sucks after I bought all my parts I realized for a little more I could have had the real nice C6 Z06 kit with awesome rotors etc but then I would have needed the 18 or 19"s to so that will just have to wait for now.

I do completely understand about copying someone elses idea.
I was planning on seeing if Tobin could remake them(basically weld spacer to bracket) or something like that to elminate the current problem of loosing a bolt for mine and my dads safety. If someone wants to see if Tobin could do it for everyone then have at it but I only need 2 kits(maybe three you never know when you will buy another syty

)

Brakes are a serious safety issue and with how many people have lost or came close to loosing a bolt thats a problem that needs to be address.
I don't know but maybe some people brought that up to Chris and maybe he is redesigning it already?

Good luck to all on there quest for bigger brakes

i have some issues copying a kit unless cbr speaks up and says its ok.

Unless there is a patent on the front bracket, it's a free country. You could possibly make the brackets for CBR and let them distibute them?

there is a little thing I adhere to called business ethics. I realize this isn't seen much in normal day to day operations. I would be pissed if vendors copied my products....and i've been very careful to not reproduce what other vendors are making.

seems weird since i know he has a mill and could pop these things out easily. I'll try to contact him to see what the deal is with the brackets.

I've had a set of C6 front and rear 4 & 6 piston c alipers sitting on my shelf for months thinking I'd see a set come up for sale. My only correspondance back from CBR said many weeks out and that has passed too.
I'm about to engineer my own patterns and make a set in stainless plate. The basic design is goverened by hole spans and caliper positions anyway.....its not like they are a special anything.Besides...the CBR price reflects a low run cost....they are pricey for mild steel ....just my feeling.
I do realize it takes time and dedication to make ANYTHING away from job, family, responsibilities. So I'm not knocking CBR and their past efforts.
Cheers,Vinny

if you make your own design and would like to share/make available to everyone...i'd be happy to mass produce.
