Drag Racing KC 2004

This year we had the track to ourselves , with the exception of 2 S series trucks.

How did people like it ?

What would people like to see different ?

I liked starting at 3pm and going until 10ish.... I shut it down a little early as we were done.

The track is pretty good about allowing us to "run what you brung"...

I liked it, but then again, I didn't race. I thought it was nice to see JUST the Sy/Ty's running the track, instead of having to wait for a bunch of other cars that I probably couldn't care less about.

I wouldn't do it anyother way..It was great having everything to ourselves. no fighting for space to park, not ripping off intercooler scoops parking in a corn field... and yes, kcir was lax in tech, although next year that could be different. The only thing I remember was a fire suit for someone...but as far as cages went, no one said a thing...

The only crappy thing is the down time between races. But then if I was racing instead of being a puss - there would have been less down time.

The Ty will go down the track next year - hopefully in one piece :)

Hey Sean, not only did I like GB01 because we had a big track to ourselves and could make a run whenever... I also liked this years setup with kcir. It was nice to be able to make those "time trials" in between racing when it cooled off.

If we share the track with s-series, how MANY s-series trucks will there be waiting in line? Prob. quite a bit. Maybe we could rent the track from say, 10 a.m to 10 p.m.

Just a thought and opinion

I pretty much agree with Zach. If we would share the track, it would have to be an all-day deal. Maybe have T&T open from 10am-6:30pm, eliminations at 7pm. Do whatever contests while we're there. Lanes 1&2 for SyTy, the rest for S10's. Not to sound mean toward Sonoma GT's, but perhaps there's something there for them instead of having to race us. (Running a stock GT vs a stock SyTy isn't quite fair...but there weren't any other options.) I'd hate to be the only GT at the Nats and stuck running against the turbo'd trucks.

I don't particularly have a problem with sharing the track, so long as the S-series crowd aren't a$$holes. (Anybody from their event able to comment on personality-compatibility between them and us?) I know some guys with Xtreme's, and they aren't folks I'd hang with on a normal basis. Not that they're BAD people, just a different approach toward things from mine. Could be more fun, could be more headache - but we won't know until we're there together. :agrue:

While I didn't have a truck there this year, the ability to just pull into the lanes (ala GB'01) is nice - but if you have to wait, it's just more time to ice down the CAC. :D

If we have it to ourselves, I'd like this year's schedule.

And I'd like to see the rental/tow class become official.

It was awesome this way! At the S-Series we had to wait forever for other cars to go because we didn't have the track to ourseleves like we were supposed to. I wouldn't change anything, the timing was good also, except for how hot it was from about 3-6 ish but heck it is going to be warm either way, but it was great!

I preferred having the track to ourselves.

I personally left about $500 in parts and $1000 in tools sprawled out all over the pits.
If there were 350+ plus people wandering around, no way could I have gotten away with that.

We didn't do a bad job keeping everyone occupied and some of us slammed busy the entire time we were there.

I say we do the same thing next year.
Rent the entire track to ourselves for as late at night as we can race and charge the locals to come race with us if they want to.

See you in KC in '04

My friend who is a S-10 guy, who went to the Atlanta s-10 nats, and then was my co-pilot for nats this year stated it well when I asked him about the difference.

Basically he said, he could barely stand spending 2 days with the s-10 guys, but wouldn't have a problem spending a week with us syty folks. (Imagine what greens knees would like like after a week?).

I think the track setup was perfect, except for the smaller # of trucks, and fewer fast trucks.

Photocopy the setup for next year.

"Atlanta Nats"??? wouldnt that just be another meet? Nats is short for "National", right??? I dont really dig the NJ S-10 meets, but the Nats were totally different IMO.

You bring up a great point. I wasn't real nervous about leaving my Ty unlocked - sometimes with the keys in the ignition (true story) when it was 'us'. There were times when I knew there was someone who didn't belong that I got nervous. I might be slightly paranoid - however I trust ALL SyTy'ers. I've had to explain that to the wife a couple times that I really don't worry about getting dicked over. Regardless if I know you - I know that my truck will be safe - with the exception of people who find it as a leaning pole :)

Yeah me too...... maybe we can get a wireless headset or something...

Wonder what kind of range it has. I know I was all the way out at the bathroom and the wireless mike still worked.

That way I can tell everyone what a 10 second pass in a Typhoon feels like from the drivers seat.

I mean my Typhoon hasnt run since 1999 . And then it was running in the 11's. No one has gone 10's AWD , and I went 11's back in 1999. Wait till I get a motor that has 6 working cylinders...

yeah i left my key in the ignition and flipped on the on position letting my ic pump run while i sat in the grandstands watching races. I figure no syty onwer would steal my ty bc the already own one but a s-10 guy i can vision them being jealous an would jump on the opportunity. I loved the syty set up way better than the s10 i guess i should thank gabe for this year.

Having the track to our selves was great!!! Do not change anything for next year. Ohh and the Rental /Tow class was a blast to even thou it was like watching paint dry.

Yeah Jas, something I hadn't even considered. I remember those feelings from previous KCIR events. (The dirt track event especially...) :-?

I was under the impression that if we "share" the track with the S-series guys they would have it from say 9am-3pm and we would have it from 4-10pm. This way we can still rent the track for "one day" but split the cost in half. I don't think we'll actually run with the s-series guys. Which I think is good. I think the s-series guys will have many more trucks than us, so we'll have to wait forever to make passes. If we split it up like I stated about, if they bring 2 million trucks, fine, thats their problem. Just make sure they're out off the track by whatever time, then it's out turn. We race just our Sy/Ty's and everyone's happy.

I think the way we had the track to ourselves this year was great. I agree, this is the only way we should have it. Then we can do whatever we want without any one else bitchin, ie. racing skateboard vs. razor scooter. Tow vehicle/rental car class and so on. If we share with s-series at the same time, and we start pulling this stuff, the s-series guys will tweak because we're "wasting track time." If it's just us, we don't care, because we have 50 trucks running(at absolute best) instead of 200 if we combine. I think the split time is the best. They have it from 9am-3 and we have it from 4-10pm, that would be perfect.
