Can you still pass emissions after you delete the EGR? I'm tryin to keep my truck on the street with my build but want the EGR gone. Anyone have any input?

Yeah, you just have to put it back on once a year for the emissions test..

If you have a chip from one of the guys on the board, odds are the EGR is turned off anyway. So you can leave it on the truck, and cap off the vac line about 3-4" below it do its not noticed that its not working.

If you want to really get tricky. You can take the EGR off, cut the pin that extends into the manifold, put a block off plate between the EGR and the manifold and call it a day. That way its blocked off for good. But you still pass the "look."

It depends on what szxtate you live in . Here in Colorado, EGR is required but fortunately not required in the visual inspection. Pretty cool I thought. I tossed mine and have never had a tech say a word about it.

Yeah they don't have any clue what there looking for, the last time I went in there the two girls wouldn't even believe me it was AWD and had to drive it off the dyno first. So they had no test for a AWD and just passed it, they didn't even pop the hood, it could of had a carbureted BB with no cat and they wouldn't have known any different :rotf:

Yea jersey is kinda lame on the emissions laws so I'm not sure on how they approach the EGR setup. But I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you'd prob need it.

You will pass an idle test without it (infact the EGR should always be off at idle) The roller test, I think it would be questionable. I don't have to do roller in MA becuase its awd. If its disable in the chip their is no difference difference between a block off plate and EGR value. The biggest difference between and EGR and block plate is the space make it easier to access to that area.

You'll fail both visual and dyno in NJ.. New Jersey is among the most strict without a doubt.. all you need to do is find yourself some friends that have a way around the whole inspection sticker thing like I have :)

And if you want to get extremely tricky, you can pull your top end apart, weld the EGR slot in the intake manifold, mill it flat, and reinstall. That way you can leave your pretty EGR valve in place, and not even have to worry about the exhaust gas heating up your manifold and plenum! As an alternative, you can use JB Weld in the EGR slot if you don't have a welder.

BTW, this is right way to do it, but arguably overkill. :p

If you want to make and simple and worthwhile, get some Vortec Heads, they have no passages for an internal EGR

Yea, my bowtie head don't either, but I still blocked off the passage through the intake to prevent oil from splashing up there.
