Ever notice this about SYTY.NET

I was searching for a bunch of things over the last few days. Seems you always run in to threads where someone has the answer or someone inquires about a guys thought or what he did and rarely is there a response. I got to thinking, that's happened to me several times. Whats the deal with that anyway? Do people just like to see you squirm? Maybe they forget. Would be nice to get info you look for sometimes with out begging for it. I actually noticed this on other forums too. OK done venting.

Re: Ever notice this about SYTY.NET

I would imagine it's because most people on this particular forum have been here for a long time. . . at least, the guys with the answers have. Most every question people could ask, has been asked and answered before. It may be a subconscious way to weed out the poseurs. Someone who are truly interested in the answer will keep after it. Those who aren't really looking to fix things themselves will move on quickly.

We all know the search function sucks, but it does work, given enough patience.

And if you weed through all the BS posts, there's a ton of really good info here.

I love when people get on your ass for "not using the search feature" before starting a new topic. Yeah....like the search feature has all the anwsers. it is a very helpful tool but by no means perfect. Just cause there is a bunch of simular topics previously posted doesn't mean the question is anwsered in them. There are a lot a people willing to share their information, real class acts, and help other SyTyers but there are plenty of members that think there are all high and mighty and resuse to give the help that is asked for. Instead they try to belittle and berate people that legitimately don't know and are trying to learn. I always assume that if someone askes for help or a question they would in fact like an anwser or help.....maybe that's just me.

Re: Ever notice this about SYTY.NET

I usually try to help whenever I can, but there are usually 3 reasons you won't see me answer:

1) - Someone answered it before me.
2) - I don't know the answer.
3) - I don't have the time to answer.

And a rare 4th.....I don't feel as though my advice/help will be genuinely appreciated and/or will fall on deaf ears. In this case, my time is more valuable than to write an explanation to someone, only to have them ignore it. I know I don't know everything, but if me and 4 other people are telling you to get this part or do this thing before going further, then you could at least acknowledge the advice and say that you're going another route. I'd rather be told "Thanks, but no thanks" than to be ignored.

Sorry to rant.....and no, I'm not speaking of anyone in particular.

Posers? Tj, you don't even own a SYTY and when you did you didn't even drive it.

My point of this post wasn't really to get people worked up. I just had spent several hours looking for some information and searched like a mo fo only to find people had asked the same questions with no real response. You hear about those who have done this that and the other thing but the details seem to be in the shadows. FWIW, I was searching four link info, I had even asked questions in a recent post but that answer never came around. While searching four link, the info on it is really vague and I had just noticed that a lot of people inquire about these types of things but no real concrete info is out there. Then, you'll see a pic of someones set up and you think damn, that is sweet, then it gets asked about and then you end up with a dead thread. I am certainly not saying anyone OWES it to anyone else, I was just making an observation.

You're right. Daily driving it for 4 years, rain/snow/shine definitely doesn't count. And parking it for 2 to slowly work on things as time/money allows (of which i had very little) doesn't count as owning one either. Shame on me for parking it and daily driving something else so I didn't run my truck into the ground while I tried to fix things and learn how to do it on my own.

And a roof over my families head or owning a Typhoon? .... If only the Ty had a bathroom and shower with hot water.

Seriously though,

The SyTy market is tough to find deep answers on for things like a 4 link. I think you can count the number of people who have them installed, on driven trucks, on two hands. Dennis Kaese had the four link for years before he was finally able to make arrangements to have it installed because it's not a plug and play operation.

I usually try and find a forum for whatever make/model of car I own or am considering purchasing. So far, every forum I've read/been a member of has this same story.

Most of the answers are there, but when you need the uber detailed stuff, it's not hiding on a forum. It's a matter of finding the person in real life by phone/email/whatever and getting the info straight from them.

Re: Ever notice this about SYTY.NET

In terms of 4 link what do you want to know, what thread did you post and not get an answer.

Honestly I have sat with some of the top chassis guy on this very topic (Dave Morgan) and even he doesn't know for sure what an AWD will like/want. A few weeks ago him and I sat around my truck with a 4link, plotted a lot of points and have some ideas but nothing I would say "here guys this is what you must do, or will work" its all guessing.

Same thing with Robert, even though he runs a ladder bar the discussions him and I have had are ideas, not a this happens because of this with any confidence.

There might be 10 trucks at most that have a 4 link in a syty. I have done it 3 times, all 3 different, none of them tweaked or tuned where I know exactly what it wants or works best.

Face it Tj, you sold it because you didn't like the gas mileage. Which is cool man, I just don't think you should be calling anyone a poser or implying when you couldn't even hang.

Add #5 to that- Original poster hasn't taken the time to do basic research (ie search). If it isn't worth their time to bone up on some things, it's tough to justify spending a bunch of time on their problem.

The deaf ears thing happens probably a lot more than people realize.

Not for nothing but not all of us have the patience or the time to search endless threads for and answer. I've already been doing something and ran into a problem and used the site to get the answer only to get the "try the search engine" but still never get an answer and have to figure it out myself.

Re: Ever notice this about SYTY.NET

on another topic, i know tons of times i've searched for a particular topic and several times used the entire exact name of the topic and still it tends to be 40 pages down the line and all other posts with a keyword or 2 pop up first.

i know i've gotten frustrated looking for something when i knew i was in the right area but still couldnt find it. it's no ones fault at all but kinda goes along with the "not everyone has the time to spend 9 hrs searching for the topic they need" especially when there are times you really need the answer yesterday.

Some stuff will generally result in that kind of search return. If you search for "wideband O2", you'll likely get 40 pages of results of everything from where to buy one, how to install one, and a for sale ad where that is a mod on the truck. Narrowing down the search "intelligently" is the key here (and with Google, eBay, etc...). Such as:

Searching "PLX wideband install" in the tuning forum will return 10 posts with relative material on tuning/installing/wiring a PLX WB O2.

I know that you know all of this....just putting it out there for those who don't.

Re: Ever notice this about SYTY.NET

Or if you put a + sign in front of the words that must be included in the results. Without the +, you may get a topic with only one of the keywords you searched for. For example...+wideband +install will net you results with both words whereas wideband install will contain either one, the other, or if you're lucky...both.
