alright still fighting the pump battle.. either i'm going to run 2 walbro 255's (both pumps entire time) or 1 A1000. How do i sump the tank if i run the A1000?

I've been looking at this Aeromotive unit:

Dimensions: 12x12x12

Haven't bothered to get underneath the Sy to see if it will actually fit.

Re: Fuel pump for 500-600+RWHP

Alright i bought a A1000.. 275 bucks through a couple things going for me at summit racing. I put a ton of thought into it and talked with my local speed shop thats going to do the tunning and they about flipped when i said dual walbro or pump booster. They said depending on setup they have seen some A1000s check out early.. but they still always get at LEAST 10,000 miles out of them but the guys working the shop all were running A1000's and one had over 60,000 miles on his and its the old style of coarse. So screw it i'll try it and after seenig this pump.. it seems like a quality built peice.

Thanks again everyone..

Now onto figuring out injector size.

So sumping the fuel tank or getting a cell???

Re: Fuel pump for 500-600+RWHP

thats a good question.. going to figure that out this weekend.. i'm considering putting a 25 gallon tank in the bed and mounting the pump in there but i really don't want any weight moved higher than it has to be (truck still see road coarses).. The A1000's get loud when they have to pull the fuel out of the tank.. i was told gravity feed it.. no hydrolocking, no boiling fuel, longer pump life.. and quiet.

Some of us are still planning on going the dual Walbro route with stock tank so let's keep this thread alive. If you never run the stock tank lower than 1/2 full when racing, the sump is not needed, correct?

Re: Fuel pump for 500-600+RWHP

thats what i thought actually, the only reason i want to do the sump is A1000 related, Just by design external pumps like gravity feed setups.. being below the fuel etc. Aeromotive told me the A1000 could be mounted on the roof of the truck and still flow the same amount pulling it out of the tank. The problem is it would be loud and hard on the pump, the pumps get loud when they put the fuel under a ton of vacum pulling it and the fuel boils and the pump hydrolocks every cycle. It has the power to pull through it, its just harder and louder than it has to be.

Guys planning to run dual walbro's I would figure out a way to make a fail safe. I was thinking of monitoring voltage on the pumps.. you should be able to eastablish a healthy range for what pumps run at normally then be able to see something different if one drops or even some kinda pressure switch on the fuel lines.. i dunno i would do something.

We have a car meet locally in town with a bunch of die hard guys. Most N/A cars, but a few Turbo cars. Anyone into Buicks will notice the name of Dave Wicks. He's a good friend of mine and we actually got into talking about this lastnight. What we're going to do with my truck is mount two walbro's in the tank, but rather then them both suppling one feed line, we're going to run two. One to each side of the fuel rail, but with one fpr. (stock location type.)

Now with knowing when a pump dies, or doesnt want to work. We're going to wire up a led light, almost like a knock light, but green. We've talked about having the second pump boost activated. Or on a switch of some kind. And we might go that route, mostly to cut down on the fuel useage on the street. But when at the track, or about to race someone, a flip of a switch and its primed ready to go. Not only that, but if for some reason one of the two pumps does happen to die. A switch of a switch later and you can at least get home running on the other pump.

And when you do either turn the key on, or flip the switch to activate the second pump, if the green light doest come on, you know you have a problem.

Whenever I get my truck moved into my shed and out of my storeage unit (before the end of the year) I'm going to pull the tank out and we will start this. The only costly part of this setup will be running another feed line from the pump(s) to the rail. Everything else will still be as normal. And seeing that I'm running billet rails with my carb setup anyway it'll probably work out better. And depending on what type of line I want to run, it might not cost more then $50 to do it all myself.

Hope that gives some ideas to some of you..

Typically when a Walbro dies they still are pumping fuel but can't keep up with their reated output. I honestly have no idea what they do current wise, but they don't seem to blow fuse's when they are going. Having a lot of head room would help the lazy pump situation. I know some guys who just replace their Walbro every few years as insurance anyways. I am planning to replace mine this year, its already 6 years old (only 8K miles)

Man i'm not sure i'd like the dual pumps going to sep rails. i'd think the pumps won't be pumping identical even brand new, so i guess my thinking is the flow wouldn't always be consistant

It only takes a nano second for the motor to lean out and blow . You cant flip a switch fast enough to make up for one side of your rail not getting fuel at any one time . Correct me if i am wrong but the dual walbro setup plumbed together isnt going to use any more gas than one pump around town .

Re: Fuel pump for 500-600+RWHP

i have 75s on my built motor with the 255 and msd, keep in mine the voltage only goes up under boost,u have to run a boost line right to the msd unit,i believe this is all u need for a built motor along the lines of what me and many guys are running,i think the dual in tanks is so not needed, plus the msd is so easier,

i really donty like this idea, to many inconsistencies IMO when going fast safely has alot to do with even distribution.

i never liked the idea if running two of anything, two pumps or one pump and a booster pump or voltage regulator or whatever, just more stuff that can fail. an a1000 can easily handle your power goals brock. sure it may be noisy, but when your making 600hp your truck isnt going to be quiet anyways lol

Ya, there is definetly a A1000 sitting in my kitchen laying next to the new turbo right now. Still fighting the harness battle and trying to figure out what i'm doing about that.. I've now got 3 places willing to make the harness that are all more than able.. same prices to the point its amazing and one one guy willing to just drop the truck off, he wires it so its perfect and hidden and the other two they will box it up and ship it out.

Just a thought but both of these pums are able to be mounted "in tank" which helps with the noise.

I had an A1000 on my old mustang, sumped tank, and I DD that thing for 2 years with no issues other than a clogged fuel filter, which was easy to figure out due to the slow pressure rise during priming. I've always liked the aeromotive line of products :2cents:

Thats good to hear actually, nothing like first hand experience with a product.

As far as mounting them in a tank,.. i have no idea how thats possible its gotta be something different than what i have, this things probably to big to fit down the hole in the tank let alone trying to support the weight. Its roughly 3-5 times the size of a walbro. I think i'm going to be stuck with a fuel cell in the bed and the pump mounted next to that.
