Well there she popped up on Craigslist in vegas. 92 TY 48K miles seriosly neglected. I saw it drove it and then bought it. It got some issues but I fikure for 8k I cant go too wrong. had my buyers guide with me. She passed all except the night time purchase deal. paint is a little faded but at least I own one now. :D

Understand about owning one now. Just got my first 92 Ty 2 months ago. Thought I needed a little body work and a tune. Now I have a rolling chassis in my garage with a body getting worked over in my brothers garage. Nothing like a resto.

Here is a pic of the good side. The passanger side fron flare broke off from a blowout. so Ive got to get her fixed. I havea set of 08 Vette wheels Anyone know of any pics. I saw one on here once. But now I cant find it. I am wondering about the 2 diferent size wheels. Will that screw up the AWD?I am having put on it. I want to upgrade the brakes. Ive got a ton of Q's. PO put crap gas in it it pings like a mother at WOT. Hopefully the good gas will fix that.

Pinging these motors will cause them to throw a rod out the side of the block.

well Ill stay out of the boost till the crap gas is gone. Any other reason why it might ping?

And while you're at it, do a full tune: cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc. Find someone with a datascanner. Use the "search" function here...it will be your best friend.

Can't answer your questions about tire size...pretty sure height needs to remain the same. Widths can vary.

Congrats on the purchase! I live in Vegas too so let me know if u need a hand or some advice on getting that sucka running right. I've spent the last 4 years messing with mine. The guys on here can offer a lot of good advice also so listen to them and save yourself some headaches!

Thanks guy. I got the gas down to 1/2 tank filled it back up with 100 octane. Hello rocketship. Then I pick up my 07 vette wheels tomorrow afternoon. Anyone know if I need to space the rear to fit the 10.5"? Also under WOT (with the good gas) full boost it backed down suddenly then the check eng light came on. I noticed a vacum block by the front of the motor 1 hose connected 2 missing? just above the turbo. anyone got any ideas? She Idles pretty rough too.

First of all listen to what others stated and DO NOT GO INTO BOOST untill you go over the truck. Do the tune up and get that out of the way. From what i have read i have seen people blow there motors becasue they dont understand that PING and KNOCK is not good and when you go into boost having these issues you will pay later for a motor rebuild.

On the other hand the reason the check engine light came on and the truck backed down is becasue you are over boosting. Just another way to damage the motor. That block you see is the factory wastegate. It measures up to 14.8 - 15 pounds of boost and then it will stop boosting but if the lines are missing then that means you must have an external so the factory is not in use or by passed. If you dont have an external then you better get those vac lines connected before you go full throttle.

i say step on it! just keep ****ing around at WOT and your ear is your knock detector!!!..

seriously. buy Datamaster or tunerpro and stey out of boost untill you know how to log it!!

or....
do as i mentioned before...step on it, and post pics when you tear out that engine after 3 days of owning...

Thanks guys for all the input. Well I dropped it off to the body shop to get the rt front flare put back on. I called him in the afternoon. He says I drove your truck up the street. it smells like anitfreeze inside. He didnt finish putting on the flare.now Im wondering how hard he drove it when he took it out? Vette wheels wernt ready to pick up yet so I guess Monday Ill try to get it back. hopfully in 1 peice. I will definatly pull it apart and go through the full tune up.
