Why dont the group of guys that want the CF hood, chip in to buy the donor hood, spread the cost out.
Sorry if you dont like this idea Guys.

I would think, whomever donates the Goodmark hood , will choose its final fate. Possibly drop shipping to a new buyer, drop shipping to an Ebay buyer, forum member etc.?( or shipped home)
Once I'm done with it, pictures can be taken and it can be posted somewhere for sale, so the original investor can recoup directly.
After all, it IS a donar,not a keeper. ;)

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

1.) OK so who is going to build the hood's now VIS or Vinny?

2.) Am I correct in my reading that VIS will build them all at once and Vinny is buildng them one at a time?

3.) What is the weight differences between these?

- CF skinned fiberglass 2" cowl hood, blk. gelcoated underframe. =565.00$

- CF skinned fiberglass 2"Cowl hood w/ Cf skinned underframe. =825.00$

- CF Full carbon 2" cowl hood w/ full carbon underframe and clear gelcoat =1100.00$

I'm interested so send me pics and price please to shaun.trescott@us.army.mil and don't rip me too bad, ok! I take it by your post that surgery was successful and you'll soon be back to full steam......does this also mean you will be able to mail the X-Mas tree w/goodies and dealer promo kit next week as well :). If so, email me pics of the tree w/the hood pics and I can just pay you all at once.

:) I'm going to say...that if the price & quick is MOST important to a member, then buy the VIS hoods.Because yes , I'll be doing them one at a time.

2.) Am I correct in my reading that VIS will build them all at once and Vinny is buildng them one at a time?

3.) What is the weight differences between these?

:) Fiberglass always absorbs more resin per square inch than pure carbon . At this point one can only guess the final weight differences to be accurate.Speaking of accuracy....thats certainly one area that will be extremely consistant with the INFUSION process as opposed to the open mold China way.
But the all Carbon version WILL be the lightest bolt on hood available in our market.

- CF skinned fiberglass 2" cowl hood, blk. gelcoated underframe. =565.00$

- CF skinned fiberglass 2"Cowl hood w/ Cf skinned underframe. =825.00$

- CF Full carbon 2" cowl hood w/ full carbon underframe and clear gelcoat =1100.00$

:) Money is most always a major concern for all of us, even myself. So If members opt for the VIS version, no hard feelings from me certainly. There's something to be said about faster turn around and cheaper price when your desperatly trying to work within tight constraints.

Yeah Vinny I was just confused where this deal was going, because if you read back through it, it reads like the deal is to have you make them. I don't really mind the price, but do have a concern about the time. You're one man and can only do so much and I don't blame you, but I don't want to have to wait like 6 months or a year or more for one.

Like Marty was saying earlier that a glass hood is about 13lbs and a true C/F is about 7lbs I guess there can't be much of a weight difference between the three then.

Yes, I was just being honest about the turn around time. Life happens. I don't even have the steel Goodmark in hand yet.
But back to "the differences". I don't have a SY/TY VIS glass hood here to weigh for the record. Maybe someone who buys one can chime in later to post this ?
But just going from steel to composite, there WILL be a drop in weight. The more Carbon thats used in a composite laminate schedule...the less it will weigh. The rigidity and strength will go up exponentually as the ratio of Carbon is also increased.
But the most differing value to Infusion vs. open mold wet lay-up is the RESIN.
POLYESTER has life issues, warp issues, texture bleed through from heat, and sag.
Epoxy/Vinylester hybrids have none of that. Mix these propreties with Carbon benefits, and you have something worth the waiting for in my book.
We've all bought things in a rush thinking "just having it" will satisfy .......all too sad to later find issues and by the time all is dealt with....the same amount of time has passed.
Now what would be GREAT for those of you wanting to push the VIS deal....would be to demand from them to use at least Vinylester if not the Hybrid Epoxy blend on this run of hoods. Then you'll be getting a good value and a hood that will endure much better. That is, if they actually apply it. ;) Time will tell.
Something I just thought about too.......whats the value in a deal with a CF skinned glass hood(cosmetic) if it sags/warps/prints through due to the Poly resin.....?? You'll just have to bodywork it and paint it later anyway for it to look its best. Bummer in my book.
Just thoughts here. ;) ................V'

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

Which style of hood did we decide on from goodmark? I'm assuming there is only one of the 2" cowl.

Viiny or someone please post some pics :p

I would do it but don't know how.

I just went through my saved Sy images and found a few, but I'm not sure they are the ones of the DESIRED hood.
The one I'm looking for is the style which best follows the flatter lines of our trucks and doesent look like it swells up from nowhere... :squint: ...if this mental picture makes sense ?
Its also the stock center bodyline....not the later style which has the reverse center hood line. (corvette like).
ANyone have a pix of this type ???? :)

I want a stock style CF hood.

Okay...I talked to VIS out of Cali five minutes ago. Chris at VIS (909-595-3027) told me he can make us one style hood. Each hood will cost $450-500 plus shipping. The lead time depends on how fast we can get a core hood to him to replicate. 6-8 weeks later we should have the hoods. We need at least 15 hoods and wants 30% down to begin the project. They currently make the hoods for the 2nd generation trucks found on eBay. After this deal goes through smoothly I will be asking him about the tailgates as well.
