Re: Ha! Man this forum is dead!

Adam is right about FB contributing to the awareness of these trucks. But as a long time member/owner it is infuriating to read the misguided info that is constantly presented on there. A lot of times I just post a link to .NET as my response to someones question. Or I simply message the author to help guide them. I still come here for any tech, but it is fun to view picks and guys projects on FB.

Yes to this all day long. I just got into a FB argument with some eyebrow ring'd punk that needed a little guidance in his ignorance regarding how retail sales work over a stupid rotor picture. The post has been long dumped since I broke my own FB group rules.....but I couldnt help it, he deserved what I gave him. Yes, I am slapping myself on the wrist for bad behavior.

The process to post links from here on FB is great. It helps move people over here to where it's a better controlled environment as far as content goes and not just continuous blabber of "SHOW ME YOUR RIMS / LOOK AT MY VIDEO OF MY TRUCK PARKED ON A HILL DOING NOTHING / LOOK AT MY NEW GASKETS" type content. Of course, you have to realize the foundation of FB is for quick posts that engage people for a short while and then it's off to the next thing.....whereas here, you can look up information that happened 10 years ago and add to it. It is two very different medias....both have it's positives and negatives without a doubt.

FB is for quick posts that engage people for a short while and then it's off to the next thing.....

Thus contributing to everyone's ADHD?

I'm just anti-FB because it's not productive, and 90% of the time there's nothing of value to be seen or learned, the other 10% of the time, it's the 3 B's... Bitching, bragging, and babies.

People waste a ton of time on there doing nothing, instead of doing what needs to be done. It's literally an epidemic in the workforce. Can't say how many deadlines I've missed because people I depend on to get things done, are f*cking off on FB on the clock and not getting their job done. I'm half tempted to bring up a guy's profile in a conference with VP's after we miss a deadline and he says he was slammed and couldn't get anything finished. Then say "really you were slammed, huh? Well let's take a look at the time stamps on your facebook posts and comments shall we?". But that's no more professional of me, than he is.

Sorry for the rant... point being, is that short quick engagement will only yield short quick results/answers that are probably incorrect.

.net for life!

Re: Ha! Man this forum is dead!

You have a large control of what you see on FB based on your page or group "likes" and interests in general of what info you fill out on your profile. Of course, anything you research via google and such is detected in your internet surfing history and therefore show up as targeted ads.....but any monetized site does that, so nothing new there.

You can control all of this by hiding, removing and limiting your "likes" on FB. My FB feed mainly consists of surfing, cars/hotrods, and the bands I like. Any friends that get obnoxious or too political, you have the option to unfollow without unfriending....so you can still stay in contact without total blockout. I also use it for business and staying in contact with some of the people whom I buy product from. I keep my business separate from my personal of course.

While, yes I agree it it somewhat unproductive to a degree, it still is a platform that can be utilized in a positive manner to collectively get people together and share information.

I also agree with your outlook on it being used instead of what you really should be doing. Only thing I can comment on that is have your IT department lock out Facebook from being accessed from work....at least on any company computers....phones I realize is kinda somewhat impossible. If it's that much of an issue that your company is missing deadlines due to FB activity on work time, then that is a management problem that needs to be dealt with accordingly with disciplinary actions...especially if it's costing the company time and money on projects and payroll.

Anyways..... not trying to say FB is great or convince you to use it....but you can control what your exposed to on it

100% agree with you on this. Many people who try to answer questions posted on FB really shouldn't be trying to answer the question. :rotf:

This Canadian is still around, although just lurking now. Don't visit nearly as much since I sold the Sy a few years back.

FB doesn't hold a light to this site's (*(. Never will. This forum offers so much more to syty fans. You are a FB fan. You are taking bandwidth a real syty owner could use. Now go take a selfie doing any old thing anybody can do and post it.

Oh yeah I know there's all the options to limit what you see etc... But I also forgot to mention one of the best parts of not being on there is that I no longer get invited to all these lame co-ed baby showers, and wedding showers, and kids 1st and 2nd bdays etc... pretty much all the crap I don't want to go to. If I say no, I'm an asshole, if I say yes and don't show, I'm an asshole... but if I never get invited... well then I get to be the one who hears about it afterwards and say "wtf? why wasn't I invited???" and then they say "we'll you're not on facebook so you didn't get the invite" and i say "well, yeah... ok... text me the info next time!". They forget, and we're all good .

Plus by not being on there I don't have to worry about someone's grandfather going off on me because he got offended over a comment I made on his granddaughter's status that was a joke he clearly did not understand.

At the end of the day there's just no benefit for me to be on there. I don't get anything out of it, and I'm certainly not going to join up just to partake in that shit show of a SyTy page.

I think social media as a whole has turned a lot of people into self important narcissists, who base their lives around likes and followers. It's quite pathetic really. But, to each his own.

I'll leave with some gospel from Tyler Durden...
“You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world.”

Re: Ha! Man this forum is dead!

I have found the facebook page a good place to buy and sell small parts (not trucks). I would think of it as a good chat place. I only made a facebook account to get on the facebook syty page. I don't post outside of that, and never update my home page.
