I can't stand not bieng able to see my cluster at night:rant: , has anyone had good luck putting brighter bulbs in the cluster?

Thanks,
Christian

Re: Has anyone upgraded the cluster lights?

I have indiglo in my Supra and can't stand them. They were in it when I got it and I plan to convert them to LEDs. Better light and last longer with no worries of the ballast going out and causing erratic lighting (which indiglo gauges will eventually).

And they shine better than the factory?

They are brighter....I say 30% more.

Even with the indiglo gauges the needles are not very bright with the stock bulbs.

Re: Has anyone upgraded the cluster lights?

the 194's are also the same bulbs used in the autometer gauges, and to light up the gear indicator in the center console...

these would probably be much better for the autometers if you want colors, cause those lil light bulb covers they give you are a joke.

i need to pull my gauge cluster to fix my trip odometer and my oil psi needle... i think ill replace the bulbs with these while i got it apart...

but i wonder... i'd probably need to get a regular single bulb replacement, the 4bulb or more are probably too big to fit in there... i'll check it out and post pics/results when its done.

Re: Has anyone upgraded the cluster lights?

The guy I discussed this over with that had performed the LED swap in both the cluster and in his vdo/autmeter gauges went by the name of "helfmann" from socal. He pm'd me the following:

[qoute]Hi Ryan;

The VD boost gauger has Video's old lighting technology so there is not too much you can do. I widened my socket to get the 6 LED in, the contrast is great though it's not really bright. Doesn't bother me too much since I like it dim anyway. The newer VD gages (like my oil. temp) are much better.
The aftermarket gages are 194 bulbs, stock ... look at whitetyphoon.com, he has all bulbs listed. Do not try to use white LEDs for the stock dash bulbs, they are too dim. I tried it and failed.
Cheers

and

[qoute]You're welcome. I meant with "6 LED" that you can get the 194 style LED either as single LED (like for license plates, they shouldn't be too bright) as 4 LED setup or as 6 LED setup. Take a look at http://www.superbrightleds.com/. I ordered all my LED's BESIDE the ones for the taillight from them, they are fast, reliable and friendly in case a LED goes bad on you and btw very reasonable in pricing. If you are looking into LED's for the stock taillights do NOT use the LED's from superbright. They make a "little bitty tiny round spot red light dot" even with the 18 or 21 LED filament, look at ledtronics. They are $$ (guess 34 a pop not a pair) but GOOD

I didn't due the cluster change over yet.. because im lazy and have other stuff that has to get done on the truck first and well im too lazy the oil needle is still stuck under the stopper too lol but good luck

Its actually a lot easier with the camper shell removed. Honestly, wtf man?

The swap isn't too difficult

Just don't buy an NR automotive gauge kit and it will be easy. With those you have to take the needles off and you will never get it calibrated again.
