HELP!!! Thinking of making the plunge!!!

Ok. I have decided to really consider making the plunge. As I posted in another post, there is a 92 Ty for sale here. What do I really need to look at close on it? This is what I see:

Exterior:
Paint is almost perfect. No scratches, dents or scrapes. One small rock chip on front of hood. Trim is perfect, no scratches, scrapes or cracks. One thing I noticed, is it does not say "Typhoon" anywhere on the outside. All the ones I see on here say it on the side and back. What does this mean? It has the roof rack.

Interior:
Leather is in real good condition. Carpet is all good. Stock stereo. Everthing works. I don't see any defects inside at all.

Mechanical:
This is the second owner. It has 85000 miles on it. Motor and tranny were rebuilt 1 year ago, and have about 3000 miles on them. It had a bad valve, and a scored cyl wall, and he took it to the dealer here. They wanted to put a crate motor in it instead of rebuilding, but he wanted to keep the original motor in the truck. So he had it rebuilt by a very reputable engine builder in the area here. He had the tranny done at the same time "just because", and had a heavy duty shift kit put in, along with a heavy duty torque converter. The engine is still under warranty.
Last year he had a new AC compressor installed, and also new ball joints. There have been no mods besides the tranny upgrade.

The last 4 of the VIN# are 0721.

What should I look for as far as trouble things? I really want this truck, but don't want to get burned. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Typhoon decals could have been removed and/or the truck may have been repainted.

without knowing the engine and tranny builder i'd forget it...espically with the tranny...first off the tranny shouldn't have a shift kit, so that alone says he doesn't know what to do with these trucks IMO. who knows about the motor...i'd take your time and not dive into something when there is no reason to. plenty of trucks around, just be willing to travel or wait. No need to get something that "could" be good when you can find one that IS good if you are patient.

hope that helps

Actualy, I do know them. In fact I have had engines done by the same builder. They are a very high quality well spoken of builder. They are known for very good work.

Do they know syty's?

I have seen several good engine builders fail on our trucks.

Thats the truth. Dont jump on the first one you see.

I got info on at least 8 trucks before I even thought about buying one. There were many times I'd have 20-30 questions just lined up for the saler to answer for me. I was looking for one of these for over a year and a half. And if you want to count the time when I was younger I was still looking for one. Thats probably about 10 years now.

My point is, look on http://www.sytyarchives.com/ as well as some other sites (including this one!) and read up on the trucks if you dont know what to ask for. Or you could end up not seeing it move out of the spot it comes home to for a while.
