ok so amidst my infinite boredom today, i was searching around on the sportmachines registry... and came across this....

so wtf??? did someone swap out the entire gauge cluster and the truck doesn't really have 13k miles??? haha good thing i caught this sht before hand... can anyone shed some light on this????????

yeah but if you look at the pics of the truck on autotrader... theres a regular SyTy bezel in there... so somewhere down the road the saudi gauge cluster with 27k+ got the boot and the SyTy cluster got put it and now that one reads 13k.... so theres no real way to tell how many miles are really on the truck.

Carfax shows it being registered in SC with 12k, so that must have been after the bezel swap.

the current owner said it was owned by a royal family hahaha so maybe some crazy saudi man used to own it.

...i dunno im getting a weird vibe about this thing now...:(

and after reading the old thread...

it says no cat and no o2???

when i talked with the current owner he said he had to add a cat to get it to pass smog in texas...

so why no o2? im retarded when it comes to how an engine works, but don't you need an o2 to read air/fuel mix?

i just want to know wtf is up with this thing before i go buying it :squint: especially sight unseen...

HotRodV6 was gonna go buy and check it out and run datamaster on it for me and let me know whats up with it... before i wire the $$$$

dude you gotta click on the pics to enlarge them :lol:

if you look at the pic of the drivers seat and the one of the passenger door open you can see the regular syty bezel.

*edit* Jimmy beat me too it.

...and damn that saudi ty you posted is hideous! especially those wheels! :barf:

I went to high school with a Saudi Prince...He had some bad ass cars and his own jet...Even had a briefcase phone (1987-1988) Does anyone have the name of this guy? The guy I know is Mohammed Al Saud...

This is a little weird. It'd be cool to own a Saudi Ty, but with the gauges switched and incorrect mileage, I don't know if it would be worth it.

Well, it sure seems the milage is most likely wrong, but it is still a very clean Ty, and a Saudi at that so id say that you may be able to use the milage as a tool to get a better deal, but id say your still doing ok on the deal.

Im going to call the current owner in the morning and hopefully ill be checking it out for you tommorow and will have a datamaster cable to get some info for you. I may also drop down the ECM and see if its still got the NM8 chip?? Ill also get a pic of the O2 sensor to se if its cut or a wired up one.

Well it atleast has a cool story behind it.

Well thats the Saudi specific chip GM had in the trucks so they would run with the reg leaded fuel that is in Saudi. It had disabled O2 function and the wires on the O2 sensor were cut off at the top of the sensor, but they left the sensor to plug the hold in the downpipe, and the O2 sensor plug was still in the harness. They also had no cat, but had an empty shell that looked like a cat, and also had a fuel cutoff if the engien overboosted, which is likely with no cat.

It wasnt a empty it was a resonator had the same measured back pressure as the cat. The big telling point is does it have tyhe export only radio? You can tell because it tries to pull every freq rather the going up by 2s

IF it is an export Ty, it is now considered a black market vehicle and the resell value is considerably less than NADA list. I bought an export Porsche 911 Carrera on impulse. It ran fine, although it required adding STP lead substitute at each fill-up. I really enjoyed it but when I decided to sell it, reality struck. The Ty might not have been a bad buy in export configuration (collectability reasons) but since it has been tampered with and no-one knows the true mileage, I'd proceed with mega caution. If you don't care about resale value down the road...dicker the owner down and buy it! I offered him $15,000 cash right after Jimmy posted the ad but the owner never responded. Now I am super glad he didn't. All the best in your decision.
