To do it properly, you have to pull the headliner, probably the seats too just in case, or at least cover everything with welding blankets, then weld up all the holes, grind, fill, prime, paint. Done.

Im sure there are some other ghetto ways, but having a bunch of plugs or screws in my roof would drive me nuts.

Like Morgan said, there are ways to do it right, and ways to do it wrong. Unfortunately my truck was in the "done wrong" category on a lot of things. this is one of the issues that's in need of correction.

Best option is to weld the holes, grind the excess, sand, filler, sand again, prime, and paint.

to do it right this is not an easy task, and if you suck at body work or welding, don't even bother. Remember, don't half ass the work - people can always spot a quick and dirty job.

EDIT: the picture makes it a bit hard to see, but basically everything for the rack was removed, and filled with body filler. You can see where it's popping out on the center rail and the rail to the immediate left of center. Looks like garbage in person.

I wonder if future buyers of Typhoons will think of looking at the SPID or Compnine for V54, and if found, but the Ty has "no-rack" will investigate further to see how well, or butchered the removal is?

I'm guessing your Ty is a 92, so it really doesn't matter ;), but please don't do this...

my truck is a 93 and had the rack deleted the correct way

but yes, on 92's, who cares  the ugly roof can match the ugly seats

The "RIGHT" way would technically be no filler at all. With a little bit of metalshaping skills this isn't as hard to complete as you think.

I do need to do this to my ty still, rack is gone but holes still there, chrome strips still on. Of course it has other things a bit more major wrong at this point.

Make sure your set up properly for welding.

Take the steps to prevent any wandering sparks from ignition of any fabrics.

( probably GUT interior) (headliner)

Set up for smallest MIG wire you can find. (.023) Low heat. Try to prevent distortion.

Best method is to utilize a piece of copper backing to weld. Either find some flat stock copper or beat a 3/4 pipe flat with a sledge. MIG weld wont stick to copper, Its a great backer, Im almost positive that body guys know this trick of the trade and its been around since we stopped tinning cars. Fastening the copper may be tricky- figure that out. Have a second hand help Maby if you can not clamp it some how get the extra hand with a large cabinet screw driver to hold the copper material on the inside of truck . You can try to plug weld from top.?

Thats How I would do it.

exactally the weay I did mine, but ill add a few tips

Hammer the pipe flat then bend at a 90 degree angle

hold copper to underside of roof

mig weld

WHILE THE WELDS ARE STILL HOT inside person needs to swap to dolley block (have one in each hand) outside person hammers weld flat

if this is dont proper minimal filler will be needed ,

I have pics at home ill post them tonight

oh few other tips, to removed headliner the larger pieces around the rear windows have to be removed, also IIRC its 32 holes to weld, the chrome strips are attached with sheet metal screws and the metal is pulled up where they are in place

Removed all interior panels and headliner.Didn't remove driver seat, center console, and carpet yet.:tup:The only reason taking off lug rack was because under those chrome strips a gasket called a insulator part is no longer available.Insulators wore out .Trying to be pro active on keeping truck dry if having to park outside.Just got this truck last month f--king money pit right now.

On 93's you don't need to cover shit up inside since it's just Jimmy SLT/Bravada junk.

true DAT

fill it the right way like Morgan said.
with the original screws and chrome.
use dumdum or at least copper anti seize on threads to keep from rusting.
