I had the truck 3 weeks and it knocks like crazy...

Hey all, new to the forum/ownership. I've had a 92 Ty w/ 67k on it for about 3 weeks now. The motor started knocking like crazy. I have it out down to the bare block at a friends perf. shop. All main bearings were scarred and two rod bearings were causing the knock.

My plan is as follows and I would like anyone's input as to how much power to expect and how retarded I might be with what I'm doing lol.

-block/heads hot tanked, decked, block bored .030 over.
-crankshaft machined/polished
-melling oil pump, new water pump, engine gasket kit, main, rod & cam bearings,
-AN lines/fittings for oil feed/return, same for aftermarket trans cooler w/ fan
-valve springs (free...) poss. cam??
-eagle rods, TRW 8.5 pistons
-50 trim turbo w/ air to air FMIC (already on truck)
-3" turbo back exhaust
-Truck already has a chip setup that I'm not sure of. I've seen pictures of someones on here. It has steps 0-9 on a little switch/indicator thing. 0 shuts fuel off and from what i'm told theres a valet setting, and blah blah. I need to know if the stock injectors (35lb?) can handle boost levels around 20 or so psi. I know a 3 bar map is needed. If someone can tell me what kind of chip setup I have and if that can handle what I'm doing, that would help.

If I were you I would take it a little slower and just put it back together. Mod it later when you have a clue of what you are doing.

Make SURE you use a Melling M-Select oil pump

Yup. Buy fast truck neglected truck cheap. Makes funny sounds when I floor it. Keep doing it to see if it goes away. Knock goes away replaced by loud clunks and smoke.

I believe that many of the syty gurus call that the learning curve for these trucks...I'm with TYTILIDIE on getting it to run right first before you mod it out. But then again I don't have one of these trucks so I can't speak on behalf of them. Whatever you do good luck.

It's not that I don't know what I'm doing. Just not terribly familiar with what certain nuances are associated w/ these motors. It would be pointless to rebuild to stock specs knowing at one point I would have the motor out to build it anyhow. The goal is to have what I'd like done while its out and stripped down. I don't really want to do it twice.

The pic posted of the chip setup is exactly what I have in the truck, thank u. How versatile is that setup?? should I be considering code59 or other options, given what I'm doing??

Also, what are the stock injectors good to boost/hpwise??

There are a few extremely capable minds behind building this engine (not myself haha) they are just lacking familiarity with this vehicle so I'm trying to get info from people who have done it..,..

Mine lasted almost a year before it started knocking. Now a few thousand later.... It's all good. My 16yr old son loves to take it out for a spin with his friends and has done most of the tuning using CODE59.

Forgot about the 10k + in receipts after the motor blew up.

Might be how some blow theirs up, but wasn't how mine blew up, after two weeks of ownership.

Good Luck with your build, search function will become your best friend real quick.

I think thats why so many NICE modded trucks are going for SO cheap lately ... people are selling their problems to someone that doesnt think there is a problem.

I guess I DID get lucky buying a stock truck. If I ever get around to modding it, atleast I know EXACTLY what is in my build ---
