Re: What if cladding...

More parts are needed no doubt about that , but where does cheap fit in at ?

I didnt say cheap.... I said reasonable. The source behind all this isnt going to skimp, trust me. This is only the beginning of things coming down the line if what Ive been told is going to happen and based upon what has already been taking place.... there is more besides just this......much much more.

Im very limited on information I am able to give out at the moment while things are going on behind the scenes. Any information I can leak, I will. Beyond that, I am bound to silence per the source's request and work I am doing for them. I was just lucky enough to be invited to the party so to say....

Put it this way... lets just say if the cladding thing doesnt pan out...the other things that I know of will be just as cool.

I would like to see a cladding kit for the extended cab and the four door. It would be nice if the cladding could keep all the little rocks out. Also, maybe a wide body kit like the Pikes peak Syclone?

I dont think this source would be interested in doing that from the talks we've had, but I could be wrong. I think that would be a bigger issue of marketing and selling pieces over just the standard OEM pieces.

I'll take that info back to them though.

Re: What if cladding...

I would buy the pieces that fit like crap and broken tab pieces for my Sy. then keep a hold of my originals. I would even pick up those hard to find pieces in case i ever broke one. I wonder what reasonable is? roughly100 bucks a piece on average?

Re: What if cladding...

Having an alternative to fiberglass would be nice. My front arches are FG, and the difference against the original is visible. If it fit better and is more durable, I'd be interested.

Re: What if cladding...

I'd be interested eventually. Down the road when I paint the truck, I wouldnt mind being able to get a better more durable kit that would fit better and get rid of the gaps but still look exactly like the stock cladding (other than the filling of gaps, etc of course). I'd then just store the original set of cladding.

This isn't going to be like the last CF cowl hood interest thread is it? I think it would be great to have better fitting and more durable pieces. Good luck getting it set up

Re: What if cladding...

Re: What if cladding...

Ok, this sounds like a great idea. What is the original cladding made out of? Urethane?
I agree with smoosh, the cladding will need some sort of backing or coating to eliminate rubbing through the paint. Abs would be good....

whats duraflex made out of? http://extremedimensions.com/duraflex_ts.asp ....maybe we could put good use to that material instead of that ricer crap... notice how they slam it in the door and garage

how perfect will these pieces be? if you look at the reproductions pieces, on the arches the "lines" of the piece are wavy or just..wrong... will this look just like oem cladding? Im very meticulous, and would love to replace my broken cladding pieces with something less expensive than oem parts, but its gottta look right... I payed 700 bucks for an oem nos rear typhoon corner... (i know... ive seen them way cheaper) this stuff's gotta b affordable right?

Re: What if cladding...

Hell YES. I'm in, and make it better than OEM. :2cents: Both my rear corners need some work and I just bought a piece from RPM off of ebay:tup: Just waiting for it to show up. What about front bumper supports. Mine is cracked in 2 places:rant: Would it come in the correct color, or need to be painted? grey, black, red, what else was there?

Re: What if cladding...

I love knowing that i could get repalcement (NEW) cladding that would last. I had the pleasure of peicing together the tabs of both rear corners and wheel arches. (Friend helping me lift off my bed "lost his grip" and dropped it! Yeah I cried while I meticulously picked up all the pieces and epoxied them back together. But in my mind I know that they are going to "let go" eventually.

Re: What if cladding...

how about making it out of smc (sheet molded compound, i think) its the same stuff my transam's doors and hood are made of as well as most of my c5 vette it seems to hold up well and is an easy fix just has to be painted

Re: What if cladding...

With almost 1000 views and only about 80 votes total, that's not gonna help move things along. Im just relating feedback im getting on my end. Granted, most of those views are people coming back to the thread to read it, but still...I expected to see more votes.

At this point, its still early in the game and I know its hard to believe that something like this could actually happen with so many unknown factors. Let me go about it this way.... the source behind this IS READING this thread and taking the info to make the decision to pursue or keep it on the back-burner.

Im changing the thread title to make sure everyone reads it and just doesnt pass it over.

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

While I'd love to see it, I think it might be difficult to get enough interest for a mold run.

Hope I'm wrong.

I suppose, if you had money to do it, and sit on the parts for a while, you'd eventually sell it all.
