Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

Does anyone really think a regular S10 with cloned cladding will bring down SyTy value? That's never happened with any vehicle. (GNX, 442, SS, etcetera.) Besides, I can count on two hands how many non SyTy first generation S trucks I've seen in real life with any kind of ground effects. What makes you think every S10 owner in the country is going to run out and throw them on their rusty old beater? I've seen more 1st GEN S10's in one junk yard outing than I've seen on the road in the past three years anyways.

Do it. It's sad how many trucks meet their demise from cladding issues. I still dream of a four door Typhoon with SyTy cladding, if it's worth mentioning.

So Adam, whats going on with this? It had appeared we had a lot of interest and was wonder what ever happened with it. Did this just fizzle out and fade away into .net obscurity?? Any updates at all.....:dunno:

I would say at the moment, its somewhat on the back burner at the moment with other things going on, plus the source behind all this would honestly like to see even more interest. I know thats hard to do, but hopefully once things become a bit more organized that this can be brought back up into focus and maybe move forward.

I wish I could give a better update, but the idea has not been abandoned, which it good.

thinking about it only certain pieces would need to be remade. bumper covers arent really needed,But corners, and fenders are needed the fenders would make the most sense money wise as they are common between the trycks

I think this is an awesome idea. I honestly don't think too many guys in the S10 crowd would buy these pieces to slap on their trucks. Personally, I wouldn't, I don't own a Typhoon, and I'm not trying to fool anyone otherwise.

What I would like to see, and I don't know if it's possible, would be fender flares that extend all the way to the bottom of their respective panels. Aside from the stock fender flares, or Bush Wacker Extend-a-fenders, the options for the S-series trucks are few and far between - and none of them look appropriate in my opinion (no offense to ShugsRR). I know I would buy these in half a heart beat

I know I don't count being a SoGT owner/S10 fanatic but there's valid points about trucks being parted due to accidents, originality reasons, & just simply because some people realize they're doing good to get 5k+ out of they're nice but "old/outdated" trucks/suvs so they just sell it piece by piece to make as much as they can. A lot of you true sy/ty guys hate the living hell out of people who clone with just body kits as all clone guys know but look @ how many sy/ty conversions are being done that nobody really seems to frown upon, a lot of you guys don't seem to realize just because S10/S15/Blazer/Jimmy guys dream of owning the cladding that we're not claiming true sy/ty status but loving the exterior appearance package that should have made all 1st gens look so freaking awesome vs anything ever produced factory or after market produced for them. I voted YES, I don't own a sy/ty but as a SoGT owner I'd rather know they're not getting parted out, scrapped, & even if the price doesn't change vs the fiberglass that it's better quality fitting pieces I'd justify the prices knowing it doesn't need to be reworked just to fall apart in almost the same as original/nos cladding. Hell IF need be I'll donate SoGT original cladding to the cause for the bumper covers & anything else I can to see true fruition come of this!!! Also before I end this  Syo could you please ask maybe about getting some kind of durable supports made for the bumper covers etc??? .... we all know the "tin" was just too thin & haunts all sy/ty/sogt guys

I voted yes. This kind of thing can save trucks. I would purchase the both rear corners and probably both front fenders as well. I hope you hear some good news soon.

I would like to see a whole kit bumper 2 bumper, I would pull my originals off even though they are beat up and just save them incase of an accident!!! Hope this comes true it would be great, and honestly who cares if people try cloning our trucks we all know that will not work because the vin and maybe it could be marketed as a gfx kit

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

What is he looking at for production runs? Maybe 100 pieces at a time of each? Do some basic economics... if a mold tool is ~$10k so if 50 pieces are run it would be minimum $100 ea. + raw material cost & sprue (~$10-15 ea.) + production, sales & distribution costs (>$50 ea.) + profit ($50-$75 ea.). So the costs would roughly be min. $200 each piece for a copy.

If people are serious about making LOW cost cladding, I estimate at least 200 full sets would need to be sold to get costs in the $100-$150 range per piece ($1k-$1,200 per set).

If the mold tool is under $10k, I'm not sure you can get "better than OEM" fitment and quality without a lot of post production work.

I voted "yes" also.

Where might the original cladding dies be? History?

IIRC, at least the story I have been told on multiple occasions....the original company that manufactured them, Venture Plastics, still has them.

I feel that all of us would benifit from this. I hope it can happen. Hell most of our trucks are far from original anyways. We build these for ourselves not others also so who cares who makes parts as long as you like the truck you got right.

Best looking s-15 cladding ever made i.m.o. I wold love to have access to it and be able to install it on non v6 powered s-dimes and jimmy's.

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

I guess after manufacturing and prep. What is the price we are talking? Also, are we going to be able to have the cladding painted in house for OEM colors? What about the syclone? I want to be able to replace my cladding with factory unpainted cladding. I don't know what prices they are looking at, but I want better stuff and would be willing to spend $2500-3500 unpainted and $4,000 for painted. Additionally, color matched gaskets between the body and cladding would sell well too.

$2500-$4000? :2cents:

Much more than I am looking to spend. You could probably get custom upgraded OEM cladding for close to that cost, definitely NOS.

This poll should be posted to the S-series forums to see if there is interest outside our small community.

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

Interesting. Venture Plastics has the power...it just takes money.

I have also heard that the reason cladding isn't being produced to this day is because of the molds belong to GM (be it old GM before bankruptcy or the current one). My issue with that is I have also heard the same thing about other PAS/SyTySoGT related material that has been and is being sold so I feel it all comes down to $$ and the motivation of the person holding said items in question. There are too much speculation and flat out lies about way too much in our community. Some day it would be nice to get even half the truth. :2cents:

No chance in hell the contact I have behind will sell to S-series. I already made mention of it and was immediately told a firm "NO."

There is more behind this thread than Im allowed to post. If I could post the information I have and would give more details to the who/what/when of this topic (plus more Ive seen on here lately), I would. But there is a NDA that I have agreed to.

I am aware there is always more then what is posted. That being said, my post wasn't referring to you in any way Adam. It was more of a generalization of a group of people then a specific call out of one person in particular.

Re: Important Poll, please vote: What if cladding...

Would love for this project to keeep going. Ths summer I ended up paying around 600-700 dollars for just one NOS corner piece for my ty... havent even had the money to paint it or put it on yet :squint: If that piece were to ever break I'd have a heart attack...1,200 for two pieces of cladding? I understand Typhoons aren't your every day truck and take much money to maintain... but you could buy a new RPM engine for this truck for the price of only half the cladding on the truck...
