Intake Option For Vortec Heads

Hi peeps...

I have been working on an alternative to welding and drilling our stock intake manifolds when we do the VORTEC head swap. So far, this is what I have:

http://www.picturetrail.net/gallery/view?p=999&gid=8585370&uid=3922484

In this picturetrail acount, on the LH side you will see pics of a prototype intake manifold I am working on. I believe that it will provide far superior fuel distribution to the stock intake setup we have. The spacer in-between the Wilson elbow will be drilled for vacuum ports and possibly METH injection if you wanted. The TB is a FORD-style. What this pic shows is my concept....the intake is at the machine shop getting injector bungs welded. I also have the billet fuel rails to drill and attach. The TB will be a FORD 0-5V unit, with a wiring harness/pigtail to connect to our computers. Everything else should be straight-forward. As I am putting this together, I am keeping tabs on how much it will cost. I think this will be a sweet option (WOW-factor) to the welding/drilling of stock intakes.

Please LMK what you people think...I'll keep you all posted as I do more with it.

Rds.

Re: Intake Option For Vortec Heads

could you also rotate the upper intake another 90 degrees?

Great, keep us updated with your progress.

It’s probably going to be pricey since you are not reusing the stock upper intake and fuel rail.

this has been done at least 3 other times to my knowledge. I happen to have comparisson pics for those interested:

this also exists so that you can use your stock TB:

i think you mentioned that last time i posted that picture
I [still] never tried to buy it so never ran into the "out of stock" issue. They must have cast a few of them though :dunno:

Re: Intake Option For Vortec Heads

Well i think if you want to stay air to water then the stock intake setup is the best way to go. But if your looking to go air to air and want a forward facing TB, and bigger/better TB than stock then the edelbrock intake is the way to go. I think in the long run they will both do the same thing andon the same engine build i dont think one would be that much better than the other.

Definatly a clean setup and different.

what kind of numbers does this putout ? The ports look smaller than our stock intake ones. Porting looks manditory from pics .

Re: Intake Option For Vortec Heads

i've only seen #'s from 1 build w/ this on. But this was part of a large upgrade, so no pre-intake #s exist.

...the $200 is just for the intake manifold (more like $229+tax/shipping). Then you have the CSR spacer, the Wilson manifold elbow, the TB, machining/welding of the injector bungs, machining of the fuel rail stock, pigtail for TPS, Ford TPS...there is still a bit of $hit involved...working on where to put the AFPR...I think it will tip the scales around $1300-1400 when it is all done. I am also looking into using a bit cheaper components (the Wilson elbow is $300 alone!), so....working on it a bit. I do think it will work far beter than stock intake though.
