just FYI they are having a problem with the cells (yellow top) in some of thier batts. I went through 3 Yellow tops this year just kept getting them swapped they would not hold a charge after sitting two weaks now i put a red top in no probs.
they are redoing them as we speak because it was brought to thier attn.

my yellow optima crapped out as well and again - I am running the red top now and no issues.

I have an oddyssy 1200 in my gtp and that works great as well.

Just returned my red top for the 2nd time. They gave me a store brand batt w/ 800 cca and $30 back. This new batt has a 3 year replacement too. I'll never get an optima red top again. :tdown:

I just took mine back today and dropped it off until the Optima rep comes Thursday. I asked if they would have him bring the YellowTop equivalent if possible and I would pay the difference if any as I've never had bad luck with the YellowTops but the opposite is true for the RedTop. Not sure yet if he'll allow that but you guys might want to try that and see if they let you.

I've had good luck with my optima red top batteries. I had one in the typhoon, which I disconnected but left it in the truck over the winter. When I connected it, the battery started the truck no problem.

Mine should be ready for pickup tomorrow and I should know if they hooked me up with a YellowTop or if I'm buying a dedicated trickle charger for it.

I've had good luck with my optima red top batteries. I had one in the typhoon, which I disconnected but left it in the truck over the winter. When I connected it, the battery started the truck no problem.

I've done the exact same thing with my red top the last 3 winters and have never had a problem with it.

My red top is about 3-4 years old, and it starts the truck everytime, even when I leave it sitting for 2-3 months with out starting it.

I've also used exide orbital's version of the red top, with much sucess. The thing never gave me problems untill I ran it dead 10 times in a row.

thats funny this came up again... my yellow top is garbage! i got talked into that yellow top by this goon at sears telling me "oh these are the best batteries you can get". My sy sat for maybe a month, and the battery was dead. I put that thing on the charger for the entire day, and it charged up fine. i take my sy out to my friends house we go eat, have some drinks and go back to her house, and the truck started up fine... 4 hours later i go to leave her house and the battery is dead. :rant:

At least the DieEasy batteries at sears had a 5 year warranty with free replacement on them, now im stuck with this pro rate optima bullshit, and have to piss away more money on a battery. :tdown: :tdown: :tdown: :tdown:

anyone tried the interstate batteries?

Heh.. Guess I have a pre-buyout yellow top. I actually got it used from a ricer buddy who was de-ricing his car to sell it. I figured, what the hell... it's free. That about about 3-4 years ago, and it still starts my truck easy when I drive it the 1 or 2 times a month that I do. It even sat in the garage twice for 12 months at a stretch while I built/rebuilt the motor, and after a quick charge it was good to go.

I see a lot of complaints about the optima batteries here and I just replaced my two year old red top only to have the new one fail in a few weeks (although I may have electrical troubles). Has anyone tried out the dry cell type batteries or found any other better alternative to the Optimas? With my battery being under the bed I'm less concerned about price than having to change it every few months until I get my electrical sorted.

Everything went to crap right after I failed to make it to the Canadian Nats last year and the whole thing got a little depressing so I just walked away from it before I wound up hating it and unable to pay my bills. I found my Optima is hard to charge if fully dead. If I use a trickler charger (2amp or 20amp) with a compltely drained optima battery, my battery charger flashes "check battery". I found if I use a 60 amp charge until it gets to 11 volts (maybe 10 minutes) and then switch to a 20 amp for a few more minutes unitl the battery will hold a steady 10+ volts then I use the trickle charger works. It probably takes 8-10 hours with a 2amp charge (I have an automatic battery charging mode.) I have found batteries (regular & gel) hold a charge much better with a slow charge.

I tried my 2/6/12 amp charger on both of them and it registers a fault and won't push any current to them. I tried a battery tender and left it on there for a couple of weeks, nothing. Maybe I'll borrow a more powerful charger from a friend and give it another try.

Another reason I was thinking about the smaller SLA type batteries is that it would be nice to have the battery back under the hood, although I have my doubts about how they would handle the heat. Currently my battery under the bed in front of the right rear tire and it's a pain in the ass to get to, but more importantly if I want to go to the strip again I need to have a kill switch on the back of my truck. I don't like the idea of having a battery disconnect out in the open where my alarm could be disabled, but maybe I need to just run the alarm off of a separate battery?

That is the same thing mine would do, I would connect at the lower settings and 60 sec later it would get to ~5V and then it wouldn't take any more current. (Current would to go 0 amps) Then it set the fault code.
