Came across this on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120100710908&fromMakeTrack=true And dont knowif these were made and sold?Or could this be to KB as a prototype?Looks like a rev. limiter and Knock lights from2-20degrees.If these were never made then Id love to see a computer guru from here to get this to see what they can do with it for us.Also J&S has some nice gear for finding knock and reading it.Check out their site: http://www.jandssafeguard.com/
There is a new thing out called a wideband 02,which pretty much makes knock indicator stuff obsolete.

Right, but not a know light or rather a retard light and how much.Would be much easier to see if just 3-4KR or if it hits 14 im off the gas.Just would be a nice tool to have instead of hooking up the laptop to watch for just KR.Like the GN Scanmaster.was curious why noone ever came up with one.Was alot of intrest in the past.If you can hear the Knock,Its WAY to late.

If you have the right air/fuel ratio,no worries.

All that lightshow does is read narrowband 02 voltage, which is like using a Commadore 64 on todays interweb. ;)

Yeah I hear yah on the light show with NB.Had a AF in the truck and was a joke. Now with the Innovate its much better. But the KR lights would be handy for when the A/F isnt right, or an inj. or something goes.Looks like it taps right into the Knock sensor. They have just a KR gauge on their site, have to check it out more.

KB sold a lot of these back 8-9 years ago.

They're not a bad little unit. I'm not a big fan of having something other than the ECM control my timing, personally. The ECM really has no idea that the J&S is controlling things externally.

They used their own DSP to determine what knock is, which was a fairly neat approach.

$495 is an expensive timing controller, if you ask me. They'll likely tell you "It's cheaper than a blown motor", which is true. Timing isn't the only reason knock occurs, however.

A better solution, in my mind, is to have a good tune that doesn't knock to begin with. If you want a safeguard, rig an alky system to go to full spray when the stock system detects knock.

Thats a good idea, never thought of that. One of these days Im going to break down and buy an alky set up.

Re: Knock Light many have wanted???

HMMMMMMM....... That is a great idea!!! Im thinking maybe ill order a second small injector and run a controller just for it.And have it available to spray all the time full and when it gets a signal from the Knock sensor it sprays. Then I can adjust it down as needed to take care of the Knock. But have it on at like 1# of boost so its always protected. That really is a great idea.Glad I thought of it!!!!! :rotf: Good thing you said that before I order my kit ,so I can get iyt all at once.Does the second cont. and inj. sound good or overkill??

I wouldn't mess with injectors, personally... any of the available alky kits could be set up to do this. It's something we'll be working on with $59 as well.

One thing to note... the nature of deto is such that once it's started, it's much more difficult to get rid of than it would have been to prevent it to begin with. It takes considerably less alky spray to keep a motor from pinging than it does to make a motor stop pinging. This is where knowing your motor is an advantage... if you know it starts to ping on 92 octane above 15 psi, you turn on a small amount of alky at 13 psi and prevent it from ever happening. If a boost spike comes along or some other funky load condition that actually causes deto, you can force the pump to full on.

The stock chip tries to do this very thing, only by pulling boost back. Unfortunately, it was never calibrated too well, so it didn't end up pulling back much. Would have saved a lot of motors with just a few minor logic changes.

Good point dig.I think mine is False so I just added xylene and gonna DM run it.I hate the crappy CA 91 octane here.I just bought a A2A so hoping that will help if it is real KR.Ill see!! A VERY dumb question about $59 probably, does the ecm have to be the 59 version?Mine is the recent refurb from the dealer and just curious if its that ecm only?If so ill have to find one soon. Thanks!!Also what would you recomend equipment wise?I was thinking the ostrich, I have a WB(lc1,xd16) and DM plus gonna get TP.Any recomendations?Ive done a search and its all back and forth.I just want ez to use. Thanks!!

I've said it before, but the number of knock problems that I've found that came from noise sources I can count on one hand. (and have fingers left over)

Most 100% stock trucks out there are knocking. This includes people who think their truck is running good.

$59 will run on any stock ECM. We actually have it running on 3 different GM ECMs, that I'm aware of.

You'll have a tough time getting a firm recommendation on tuning equipment... A lot of it is personal preference. I've got 2 different emulators, 4 different EPROM burners. The ostrich is probably the easiest of the bunch, that I've used. I haven't played with a Prominator, but it should be pretty equivalent to the ostrich.

I will say that they're *all* fairly touchy devices, as they won't handle a lot of rough handling or ESD. If there is an advantage to the aftermarket ECUs (DFI/FAST/Bigstuff), it's that they're a lot more bulletproof in this regard. That comes at a fairly steep cost penalty, though.
