L33 swap

Re: L33 swap

Even thought about selling the Syclone as a roller with all the stuff I have for it and move back to a rwd car. But I'll see what happens the next couple days. I don't need much to start it now.

If you are already second guessing yourself about a LS swap 2 weeks into your project, you might want to cut your losses now. You have a lot more work to get to your goal.

I am much more then 2 weeks into the project. The thread is only a couple weeks old though. It does not need much else.
to get running it just needs
throttle cable hooked up
battery hooked up
headers
fuel line fitting installed
That is about it to hear it run.
More to get it running and driving

I was talking about your overall goal of running 10's. If I remember correctly, you are planning on adding turbo and stronger transmission than the 4L60 you currently have.

Sorry, I am not trying to start an argument it was more of observation that one needs motivation, patience, and money to complete a turbo-LS-4L80E swap.

yeah for now I was planning on getting it going n/a until this winter then doing the turbo kit. So the headers only really have to work for a few months. Do you know if a stock LS exhaust manifold works, off of something works?
I'm just frustrated with it tight now. I'm going to go out today and get after the header issue and see if I can solve it.

Re: L33 swap

Looks like he already posted for sale in a craigslist post as a roller.

I did as a overpriced roller. Everything is for sale for the right price. For now I'm going to keep working on it and fix the issue. Just threw it up to see the interest it gets. Maybe do a s10 rwd truck instead of the AWD. Sell the car so someone can keep it stock and be happy with it.

Re: L33 swap

So I went out and used a truck manifold that worked with a little air hammer massaging to the firewall. Also cut the manifold a little to fit. So I put the coils on and worked on the drivers side. Come to find out that header hits the steering linkage when it turns. But I wanted to start it so I left that off and the header on. Set up the throttle cable and filled it up with oil. Hooked up the battery and started on the Holley Dominator. Lots of things to enter in so it will take a little bit.

Re: L33 swap

So I did everything with the Holley but cranks and does not start. I'm thinking I need more grounds, I don't think I have enough.
Does anyone know what engine mount sit the motor a little lower then the Dirty Dingo mounts I have?

Re: L33 swap

Well I did a little cutting and massaging and both headers fit now. Really tight on the passenger side though. I hooked up a couple more ground wires to the chassis from the block and it started.
I still need to button up a couple things tomorrow. Put all he accessories on and find a belt. Then I have to figure out the radiator because the on I had does not work. Electrical fans I had should still work though.
It won't let me upload a video clip but it was just me starting the truck up. So no big deal.

The light at the end of the tunnel.
Today I
Bled the breaks
Cut up the front of the truck to get the stock radiator to fit more forward so I didn't have to buy a new radiator. Worked pretty well actually.
I used the old radiator hoses and cut them to work. I had a few old clamps and hoses laying around I used. I'll upgrade them as I go with new hoses and clean it all up. For now it will work great.
I need to fill up and check the fluids.
Last major thing is to put the EZ Kickdown cable on. That gets here tomorrow so I'll get it done this week.

Then driving :)

Re: L33 swap

ok so everything is together. I had a old 99 Camaro alternator I got from my buddy that he had sitting around. Turns out it was no good. Put a truck alternator on it and it solved my problems.
So right now my only issue is that the trans will not shift out of 1st gear. I have a built 700r4 with a EZ TVcable set up. Shifts in all the gears fine sitting in the driveway. just nothing when I drive.

Re: L33 swap

So I bought a transmission pressure gauge so I can set up the TV kickdown cable properly. I am going to be doing that this weekend. I also started on making a full exhaust for the car so it's not so damn loud. Just used some cheap stuff from the autoparts store. It is going to be a temporary set up until I start the turbo build.
My last step until I start driving it and working out any bugs is a air intake. It's going to need a 90 degree bend off the intake and a straight to the passenger side where the battery use to be. Does anyone know if the LS truck set ups work for his?

Re: L33 swap

So I drove the truck last night and this morning. Probably 15-20 miles. Not crazy yet so I can work out any bugs. The Holley dominator is not going into learn anymore. Last night it did but not this morning, I'll need to work that out when I get home later today.

Re: L33 swap

I got the dominator to go into learn mode. I changed the thermostat and lowered the temp a little. Just had to change some of the coolant perimeters. Works great now. I did have a rough idle and found out that was a bent pushrod. So I went and replaced that one pushrod and the truck runs much smoother now, also does not tick anymore.
I pulled the exhaust off to see if it was a exhaust leak before I pulled the valve cover. Now I'm I. The process of putting the exhaust back on and re welding some spots I needed to fix that leaked.

Re: L33 swap

So no that my account has been fixed here is an update.
I am selling the Syclone because I have a chance to buy my 99 Camaro that I sold. It was the car I met my wife in so I don't want to miss a chance to get it back.

I have pulled off the dominator, the truck was running great and I drove it daily for a while. In order to sell the truck at a lower price I decided to take it off and make a stand alone harness. I pulled a truck harness from the junkyard along with a PCM. I am just about finished with the harness. Need to weld a couple 02 bungs on the exhaust. Also ordered some injector harness plugs for the LS1 injectors I am putting in the truck. The computer has been flashed for the injector so it will run pretty much like a stock engine. I also need to find a place to mount the PCM. That's about it though. Maybe this weekend ill finish it up.
