L35s or Pontiacs?

I have a set of ported and fully "done up" L35s that I was originally going to put on my truck and I still might. Problem is I know that the Pontiacs I have, (which are totally naked) would flow more and have more potential. My original plan was to run with the L35s and then go to the Pontiacs (Is this crazy or reasonable?), but the more I think about it since I am doing a whole truck build up anyway why not bite the bullet and get the Pontiacs done?(Or is this crazy?) I dunno its all floating around in my brain and thought I would share with the group, maybe you guyz can help my poor tired brain. For the record I do know I would need to change intake manifolds and headers and valve covers and such if I went Pontiac but thats not a deal at all. Thanks to all who read and respond.

P.S. If it helps I want this to be a street strip truck that just blows things away when I feel like it. The rest of the build goes like this
Bowtie Block
Comp 422 Cam kit (the K kit for those who care)
PTE T67DBB
Precision A2A
Ported Intake Manifold
Port Matched Plenum
1.6 roller rockers
Thats the gist of it, depending on the head combo the headers will be decided later.

I guess it really depends on the money... If you have the money, why not go big?

Well, if you have the money then id sell the L35's for whatever you can get and build the pontiacs, i think you will be happier in the end.

Better check into everything else you're going to need in order to run the Pontiacs (rockers, intake, headers, etc). It WILL cost more than the L35's.

This is true, just the shaft mounted rockers are ~$800 I believe, intake is around 500 and the lest goes on and on. As for money...yeah, dont have alot of it :tdown: But finishing my truck is not a huge rush deal for me although I have a little "fan club" that bother me about finishing it all the damn time. I am still thinking about going with the L35s for now and then cutting my losses and selling all the parts when I want to run the pontiacs and use the money from that to assemble the aforementioned pontiacs. Thanks guys for the advise.

I am building my motor similar to your and using the pontiac heads. Some of the benifits is they flow much better and are very durable. So you have a great set of heads just plan on spending a bunch of money to use them.


The other thing to consider is the fact that you want to drive the truck and you already have the l35 done so you can save the money and spend it on your internals re: billet crank, rods & pistons.

I already have the rotating assy done and balanced. I am just at a point where I should decide on what to do. Thanks for all the advice...(pontiacs) I appriciate it. If I do make up my mind soon I will have a set of sweetly done L35s, aluminum valve covers and a 2 bolt iron block to get rid of. Nothing is for sale yet though.

My decision has been made. I will be using my Pontiacs and just taking more time for my truck build. Thanks guys for your moral support and info/opinions.
