Leaf Spring Options

The other thread is mainly about the failure of the Flex-A-Forms.

Let's try to make this one solely about the other available options.

If you are able to post weight that would be ideal :)

So what else is out there?

Beltech?
???
???

Re: Leaf Spring Options

I'm running Beltechs... They are nice. Ride better than stock leafs with a drop block. They have a nice stance and are affordable. Really no weight savings though... I never weighed them because I don't care but they aren't much lighter than the stockers.

Umm the stock ones are STUPID heavy.

it literally knocked me on my ass when it swung back while removing. I knew it had some weight but didnt know it weight as much as me!

I guess to say 2 flex a forms are half the weight of 1 stock.

I run a custom center leaf in the stack. It is essentially flat, no arch. Also 2" drop blocks, and the overload leaf bumper mod invented by supersports10: http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56728.

Thanks but not in a position to lower the truck any more with the 28" slick underneath already.

Re: Leaf Spring Options

There's no doubt that the stockers are stupid heavy! When I took them out of the shackles I didn't expect to have to support them with a jack to get them down safely. The beltechs are definitely lighter but I don't know how much. I actually had to ship my stockers out to a member who broke a set and I can't remember for the life of me what they weighed!??

qa1 coilovers are much lighter
A link setup isnt

And stock leafs are about 50lbs each I beleive, at the ones on my 4WD blazer were, flex a form shipping box said 19.5lbs for both, so you lose a stupid amount of weight, I think somewhere in the order of about 70-80lbs, but it's still a shitty suspension design.:rotf:
But I do beleive the reduction in unsprung weight made the rear ride ALOT better than with belltech lowering leafs.

*Goes to make plans to save up for a link setup to get rid of his flex-a-form leafs*

where can you get this from? I want one for my Ty but they require some welding right? How much do they run?

I've heard nothing good about the flex a forms -assuming they're the fiberglass leaves everyone's talking about. So what if they're really light? They can't support the weight of the truck and shatter.

I am surprised there aren't any polymer leafsprings out there though.

A 4 link does seem to offer the best setup. Any idea on weights/cost/ vendors?

Re: Leaf Spring Options

Yeah, on the detroit spring website they state that 'composite springs hardly ever fail', if designed correctly.

As far as performance, flex-a-form kick ass, they handle amazingly, the only problem is wheel hop due to a much lower unsprung weight with a much light spring. The ride got better, and the car as a whole got much faster.

As far as a link setup, there's a world of options, but it depends how deep your wallet is. Check out youtube video for a Watts link.

IMO I'd just go talk to a racecar fab shop near you and tell them what you want, and see what they reccommend.

There's always an IRS swap, that's pretty insane, but a full independent suspension Sy or Ty would be boner inspiring.
