So i'm converting all my bulbs to LED... I'm ordering my lights from autolumination.com
Just thought I'd give you the scoop on the good and the bad, so you learn from my mistakes.
I switched out the reverse lights and the 194 parking lights in the rear using:
(Reverse Lights)
SMT Tower 48 High Powered Wide Angle SMT LEDS 1156 White
They Look Awesome... they light up the lens just as bright as a standard 1156, but with waaaaay less current draw (which is what i'm after, i want all the excess power for my stereo
)
(Tail Light 194's/front corner turn signal 194's)
5 Led SMT Tower 194 bulbs (red for tails, amber for front corners)
A HUGE difference! They light up uch brighter and are more visiblee in the daytime. Much safer, much less current draw, and since LEDs instantly turn on and off (no fade) they allow for better reaction time so no one rear ends you...
(bumper lights and brake lights)
SMT Tower 48 High Powered Wide Angle SMT LEDS 1157 Red for tails, amber for bumper signals...
These light up the lenses just as bright or a bit brighter than regular bulbs, all the same pros as above... they look amazing with clear lenses in the front :tup:
NOTE: I tried getting the smt spiders for the tail lights... they DO NOT WORK, the socket that our bulbs go into, the big fat thing, doesnt allow for the bulbs to go in deep enough to make a connection... these are expensive bulbs, so dont waste your money, they fit, but they dont connect to power... one way to get around this i guess if you wanted them that badly is to make the two bumps on the bottom of the bulb biggger using solder... but im not looking to rig anything up...
Autolumination sent me everything quickly with a tracking number...thats a plus... it was well wrapped, a bit old school with newspaper and stuff...but it was still well wrapped. Nothing arrived broken. I took a oss on tthe spider lights because they didnt fit. Im not gunna go through the hasssle of shipping returns and the like, so I just threw them into the basement for another car or something....
I reccomend for the tail lights, the SMT tower 1157's mentioned above...
Total cost for the makeover...after shipping and stuff comes to around $200
I know thats expensive for light bulbs... but they make a huge visual impact, they add safety due to instant on times and better visability, they draw way less current, and of course, the best part, they never, ever go out.
So if you were thinking about doing the swap... thats all the info you need. The problem with most led bulbs is brightness, these are definately bright enough, and they definately show a big difference betweeen the high/low setting (parking light vs brake light) so you know when the turn signals are on.
All you need to buy is a heavy duty electronic flasher to replace your old one with so you wont need any resistors. Get one at autozone or advance auto parts... Just thought I'd share all this info with you guys... ill get some pics up of the led install once I have all the bulbs in
