Let's Talk Shocks!

I've been researching for weeks what shocks I want to use on my Typhoon, both here and other sites. Generally, what I've come up with is a whole lot of conflicting part numbers. What is like to do with this thread is combine what we all know to be accurate, without any "I thinks" or "I'm pretty sures", into one, hopefully easy to find thread.

What I know (or think I know) is Syclones and Typhoons have different shocks. The Syclone's shocks were Bilsteins from the factory, and valved for a more sporty (firm) ride than the Typhoon. The Typhoon had a softer set of shocks in the front for a more luxurious ride and load leveling air shocks in the rear. I'm not sure on the Sonoma GT, but will certainly add this info if it comes up.

What I'd like is for you to post what shocks you have on what truck, how you like them, how they compare to stock (or what was on your truck before), did you make any changes to your truck when you changed shocks, is your truck lowered, and most importantly, what part number, front and rear.

I have to look up the part number for my rears but they are Pro Comp ES9000. They work pretty good for normal around town driving but they squat a lot under a good boost launch. I am lowered. I have AFCO front coilovers and they need stiffer Springs.

I've heard the AFCOs were pretty light, even on their firmest setting.

Great info Dave, as always. Would you recommend a different than factory length shock for a truck that was lowered? Say, Belltech springs, 1" blocks and setback plates.

i would have to disagree, i have my front and rear afcos set at just above mid-adjustment for daily driving and they are just right as far as ride quality and handling. This is on a truck that has 1 finger gap between the wheel and cladding and i have never gotten close to rubbing. When i autocross just turn the adjustment up a bit and it is perfect for racing, but far too stiff for any daily driving.
