Re: Looking for best speakers to mount in the dash

Im looking to replace the stock speakers with aftermarket. Any suggestions? Thanks

Bose leads the way. Rockford Fosgates or Cerwin Vegas are awesome. Blaupunkts are ok. Sony, Kenwood or Pioneer do wonders as well.

How far do you want to go? Good speakers in the stock location can work really well, but to get great sound, you'll need a new head unit with RCA outputs and amps and a sub. Replacing the speakers is a good first step. To widen the choice for rear speakers, you'll need new grill covers like American International SG69BZ that allow a deeper speaker, . the magnet on most aftermarket speakers will hit the body sheet metal.
Right now, I'm converting a Bose spare tire sub from an RSX to be compatible with my 4ohm amp. With bass shakers under the seats, I really don't need my 15" sealed box sub.

If you are not using a separate amp for the component speakers then I recommend "Memphis audio" speakers. They sound awesome!

I cut down into both the Vent duct and gauge pod to fit my 4" separates. Not that difficult. Just filled with "dumb dumb" (black tar like stuff) that is used for this situation.

Those adaptors are for a Typhoon. Don't work on a Sy or SGT. I tried about 10 different speakers (I'm in the business so I have access to a lot of stuff) and went with 4x6 and 4x10 Eclipse speakers in my Sy. Very happy with the sound with no amp. No low bass but good imaging and sweet sound.

Bose isn't available as an aftermarket brand, only as oe equipment from certain manufacturers.

i have to say that Bose is an overrated and over priced product in every means, and i would stay away for it, if you don't get a kick out of seing a bose Tag.

for me i hate the brand, and the way their sound sounds compared to other brands in their price leauge. they just suck balls,

I have been an audiophile since birth and I can tell you that the best car audio speakers on the market hands down are Morel and Focal. Now, they probably won't fit unless you choose to go a custom route. Personally, I don't want to hack the truck up but in my Datsun I went with a Kenwood Exceleon Headunit running through a 4 channel amp (bridged for sub) and the fronts are Focal Polyglass 5 1/4. I've got a JBL 8" in a small bandpass box. You can hear the guitar pick scrapping the strings they are so clear. Best sound I have ever heard for car audio. IMO the Sony's,pioneers etc are budget speakers. Eclipse, Infinity Kappa Series, MB Quart and the above mentioned are far superior - if mounted correctly with the correct amount of power....Where did you purchase the eclipse 4x6 and 4x10? All I can find in that size is pioneer....

It looks like Eclipse is virtually out of the car audio business in the US. I bought them directly from the local Eclipse/Fujitsu Ten distributor. The models I have are SE8463A 4x6 and SE8403 4x10. I think you can find both with a quick google search.

They are still here they only have two navigations left that are geared towards Toyota as Fujitsu ten does the audio for Toyota's, but they are a universal product.

They still sell to the after market. There is only one distributer for them. I buy them all the time for my store.

I have Infinity Kappa's with a 30 watts to each. They sound amazing and are adjustable at the speaker
