LS1 GN Swap

Re: LS1 GN Swap

Looks like a sweet project  I'm not always a fan of swapping out powerplants on rare vehicles but if it's a step forward in technology I'm all for it!! I love muscle cars with modern suspenion and powerplants

20k+ '87 GNs made. Not that rare. :dunno:

Re: LS1 GN Swap

Finally got some time off work to drop the engine in. The BRP swap kit came with a trans crossmember that doesn't fit so I have to source one from the G body websites. Now I just have to get a driveshaft and put the Painless harness on. I was going to use the factory harness but decided to go with painless so I could put the ECM in the factory location.

The fuel lines are are all AN style using a 97-04 C5 fuel filter with built in pressure regulator and return line since the LS uses a returnless system. Car already has a Walbro 255 so should be good to go.

Re: LS1 GN Swap

Sold them to a friend. I may have another complete set front and rear. I'll look for you.

ok. I may be interested in them if you have them since our ty still has stock brakes on it. Will these clear the stock wheels?

Re: LS1 GN Swap

11.5 months later.

I know this isn't syty related but though some would enjoy. The cars runs and drives now. Just have to fix the shifter bracket so the reverse lights go out in drive.:rotf:

What took so long was gathering parts and vacation time to finish.

Car has:

98 Camaro LS1
99+ ECM with painless harness
Tune with emissions delete
Full stainless exhaust including headers (no cats)
Bone stock everything else for now

Next step is to give a fresh coat of paint.

Kick ass. There's an LS forum on turbobuick.com now, it's become an accepted swap just like on the SyTys.

Re: LS1 GN Swap

Thanks for the comments guys. I finally have the shift likage fixed so the reverse lights go out properly.

I'm still playing with HP tuners trying to squeeze some power out of it.

I love it so far. I just cant bring myself to do it to the Sy. I bought the GN as a roller so it doesnt bother me as much.

I'll try and get some better video of it in action. This was my first YouTube video and it shows. :rotf:
