Re: Memorial Meet - FAST / GAST

Just to add an update on my truck... The brakes took forever, we spent some time going slow because I'd never used a sawsall before, let alone in tight quarters. I think we spent a total of about 9-10 hours in the garage and thats using air tools. ( I did spend about an hour+1/2 dealing with a mis-threaded brake line and grinding down my turn stops.

Getting the spacing correct requires removing-installing and repeating untill its all where you want it, but the longest process was cutting and grinding the spindle into shape.

They are 'just' the LS1 brakes, but they are amazingly better. There is still some squishyness in the petal but I blame the brake booster for that. Once you get through the inch of squish in the pedal, it hardens up real nice, braking force is strong and progressive.

Hard stops pull you forward in your seat (my seatback flopped forward and hit me). The rears still lock up first in a gradual increasing hard brake situation. I blame the weight transfer and the rear suspension though.

Overall, much better feel then the marginal stock stuff I had before. I cant wait to try a boost launch without having to do the Todd-a manuver.

Re: Memorial Meet - FAST / GAST

I did my brake upgrade and tried to do the steering box and shaft yesterday. I can't get the pitman arm off the old box so i think i'll be buying a new one. The brakes weren't that bad, it took a long time for me to do the drivers side because I didn't take enough material off the spindel and there was a lot of grinding. The pass side didn't take any time at all.

Hopfully there are no more problems and i can take the Ty to the first stop of power tour.
