Re: **mods**

My peeve is when no location is listed.

Shipping plays a factor on overall price. If I have a zip, then I can estimate the shipping and decide if I want to contact the seller for purchase negotiation.

This guy sure has a lot of nerve not posting a price in his ad:

You mean where i said i would GIVE the stuff for the price of shipping?

Don't make the change then i dont give a ****. Its about trying to make a smoother for sale section. the vast majority of the boards that have 1015719857190x the members and post flow must be doing it all wrong.

Also i make mistakes if there is a rule of no price listed and i dont list one myself delete it i am nto better than anyone else.

I believe and others seem to that if you want to sell something you have a price.

But hey most of the people with the parts that I care about and would spend my money on don't play games and want to sell the item and give me a price. Know what happens? I give them the money, funny how that works.

I will just keep dealing with my little inner circle with the parts, it has served me fine so far., Not one single person NOT ONE who i do not personally know who has posted something here for sale with a price has ever followed through with a price to me. My opinion (which i am entitled to) is based off my dealings not assumptions.

no i mean the one where you said "MAKE AN OFFER" and then said that SOME of the stuff is only worth shipping costs.

A lot of the big priced items, or rare items, people don't like to put prices on that stuff either....like bowtie stuff, full engine builds, etc. My point through all of this is there are exceptions to all the 'rules' that you're prescribing...so how do we justify allowing 1 person to post a price but not another.

If someone doesn't want to give something away, but doesn't have a realistic price in mind...would you rather see them put "$5,000obo" for a part worth $100 to you? Typically people put the $$$obo mean that they want close to that $$$...but also sometimes its someone just hoping to strike it rich by finding the perfect/stupid buyer willing to pay that amount.

Before you get all huffy and puffy over this, look at it from outside the box-o-parts you're trying to sell/buy.

If we just start deleting threads just becuase they don't have a price on them...people will start bitching that we deleted their well thought/typed out thread just becuase they forgot to put a price. Having a mod pm them or post in their thread telling them to put a price is really no different from any normal user posting into their thread "please post a price" or "please pm me a price"....so why not just practice that and see where it gets you. It probably takes less time to just post that than to get yourself all bent out of shape and make a seperate thread just becuase it's not currently the normal practice to always add a price to an ad.

Re: **mods**

In a perfect world you could do both, give two areas to list in. The first, FOR SALE, where the amount is clearly stated for the product and people know what to pay. I like this way for historical purposes, and if you're quick with the $$$ you might get a good deal. Post the price you want, if nobody responds lower the price. If a 100people respond, be happy you're getting the amount of money you asked for! Damn greedy phucks!

The second, MAKE me an OFFER, servicing people that wanna dick around, see how many guesses they'll get/make, are not in a hurry to move the product, and may not even be serious about selling. I see Mike has a point here and there, but I still don't get this system. Might as well be spoon feeding these people. Also, guaranteed I'm gonna low ball you! Then you're gonna feel insulted and everyone's time is wasted. Probably neither party will want to do business, maybe ever.

Just do all of us a favor and take the time to figure out what you want for YOUR stuff! It's pretty basic.

I have to agree with Nello's statement. It irritates me when someone post best offer and they certainly know or have an idea how much they want. I'm not the person to low ball but I will make a reasonable offer. Then you go through numerous pm and they still have to think about it. The way i see that is auction style sales. Might as well ebay it. I'm certain that over 70% of the folks that are on this site have been to ebay. We even have a section where we can link the auction.
Just post the price. If someone is interested they will proceed with pm/e-mails. If the price seems high just pass on the item.

Re: **mods**

How about another section for the sale stuff then. Call it the for sale best offer, and then for the for sale section they must have a picture /location and price listed.I understand some stuff listed and sold on the forumn is expensive and I've seen stuff given away because they don't need it anymore or was thinking of throwing it into the trash but maybe somebody could use it.What I hate in the selling section is pm sent, and they have 5 items listed, well how about they post pm sent on (name the item) that way you won't have 1/2 dozen guys inquiring about it or they can put , next in line. I know it's hard to make everybody happy, but it's just another idea.

Re: **mods**

we don't need another forum to moderate to accomodate this. We don't have that many for sale ads as is, splitting them in half isn't going to do us any good.

If you guys really need to be able to determine the difference...simply use FS: and FBO:

My question is...if something is FBO: is that really going to deter anyone from clicking into it or being interested in the part? I doubt it.

Re: **mods**

I'm with Renz on this. I sell a lot of items privately, because I get a lot of pms and e-mails asking for something, especially the higher dollar one off custom and bowtie parts. I then spend time with ppl going over what needs to be done to make them work and price it out. The majority of the time ppl don't buy, because of a number of reasons..."going to wait on other parts to go along with this part first", "let me save up some money for a couple of weeks", "I didn't know that I would need to have this other part to make it work", Can you hold it for me for a while", etc. What happens is later when I want to think about selling some of these parts, all these ppl pm and e-mail me saying that they wanted those parts and that we talked about them in the past. Then I have several ppl to try to make happy.

I hesitate to post things on the board because I will just make some upset because they thought they were the only ones previously interested. Some of these items have gone up in value because you can't fine the good stuff anymore. If I post a price, then someone will call me out, with "Hey, you were going to sell me that for less...".

The board has ppl that surf the ads with no intent of purchasing (which is fine), but then jump in and make comments about the item, the price, or the seller. And sometimes they have the balls to post up their item on your thread.

I often thought of putting some of my bowtie parts up for sale for one week and at the end of the week whoever offered the best price gets them. But that would be considered an auction and ppl here do not want that.

The problem is the buyer naturally wants the most he can get and the seller wants to pay the least. Timing plays a big part of an items value on the board. One week you can't give some items away and the next week someone (or more) are broke down and willing pay extra. It is difficult to just go back and price a item as the supply and demand changes with most items on these trucks.

Keeping the classifieds the way they are allows a number of ways to buy and sell here. Some sales are open and quick, some are private, some are through pms and e-mail, some are with close friendships, etc. As much as we all want the parts at the cheapest price, we are not always going to be satisfied. This is why there is discussions about how to police the sales. These trucks, unlike other boards, have a very limited supply of parts available. As they get even rarer, the selling of parts is going to get more controversial.

I say leave things alone and the buyers and sellers will work things out. Others should feel free to browse around, but if you not a buyer for the item, leave the extra comments and underselling out.

Well put John,it works well now why f##k with it.
Jack

Why F**ck with it?
Because if you wanna sell something. Post a price with it.
If you want to waste peoples time...do the whole "PM" me deal.
& keep people guessing by not returning PMs.
